  1. It does say it has the lesson plans in the back of the TE. Maybe I'll have to get it. I'm not great at scheduling things!
  2. Maybe i can get a few more eyes over here ;). So. Abeka has too many parts. I'm sure I don't need them all . What exactly do I need to buy for Order and Design? Can I just get the answer key or do I really need the TE?
  3. I'd also like to read It Doesn't Have to Be This Way by Ginny Seuffert.
  4. Have you seen the new Adam to Us samples from Notgrass? I plan to bring DD 2 (rising 4th) along with DD 1 (rising 7th) next year. I think it looks adaptable.
  5. MM layout killed us! CLE does an awesome job of the layout of their worktexts. Even when it appears that the lessons are longer, it's still easier for my children to do 4 CLE pages as opposed to 2 MM. Most importantly, we love the traditional spiral, built in drills, flashcards, and review. We will stick with it as long as it is Sunrise. Apparently Algebra 2 might be ready in 3-4 years!

  7. Hunter, that DK LA book... I also need help remediation my grammar. I'm having a bit if a time with it. I'm wondering if I could kill multiple birds with that DK book. How comprehensive would you say it is? It's hard I get a feel for the contents. I do have the CLE Handbook but it is...dense :).
  8. I might too :). I love my CLE reference charts!
  9. I really need to pray for wisdom...or I might end up drastically overbuying! I also found this reference chart that looks awesome and handy: https://store.logicofenglish.com/supplements/phonogram-spelling-rule-quick-ref
  10. But on second (or third...) thought, how many words does the ABCs cover? Alpha has 2300.
  11. Thanks for your encouragement and ideas. This may seem to be inopportune timing, as I currently have less time with my hands free than I normally do. I can't seem to stop my mind from spinning on the topic of enhancing my teaching abilities through further self education.
  12. Glad you are feeling better, Hunter! This should really be easier than it appears to be!
  13. Thanks so much. English makes me crazy sometimes. :/ I was previously unaware of the Alpha List. It might be workable in a simplified way.
  14. I think at it's core this is a question of self education. I really want to be able to look at my children's work and be able to pinpoint the errors in order to reteach and provide more practice. This is actually easier in math (elementary grades still) than it is in LA, and I DO NOT consider myself a math person!
  15. Well, I basically want to be able to go over any words a child has spelled incorrectly, isolate the problem phonogram/s, find a rule to explain where things went wrong, and perhaps look at some words with similar spelling patterns. All of that instead of just copying the word correctly x many times. Does that make sense?
  16. I've come to the conclusion that I am not a very good teacher. I'm slightly better than I once was, but not much better. I can administrate a curriculum - if it is simple - but if I need to correct spelling, I can't always explain why the word should not be spelled a certain way, even if I know the correct spelling. I can write essays, but couldn't teach someone how to do so themselves. I can mark my child's grammar, but I still can't understand half of it. I'm afraid I've spent more on curriculum over the years than on resources that equip me with the skills I need to be a better teacher. I feel like this situation needs to be rectified. Which resources have made you a better teacher?
  17. It may still be OOP, perhaps CBD just bought copies a while ago and still has it kicking around.
  18. I hear you on the curriculum overload. I'm still slowly purging all sorts of things I have held onto....just in case. As image I feel increasingly in tune with Solomon on the making of many books. Not to derail things, but have you seen this up and coming offering? http://allinonehomeschool.com/genesis-curriculum/ It reminds me strongly of SOW, but more open and go. I still can't see us using it for various reasons :).
  19. CBD has it ;). For what it's worth, I actually never bought SOW, though I deeply considered it many times :).
  20. Thanks for the helpful recommendations! I will definitely watch your videos, Elizabeth. I will Share them with my oldest DD who never learned phonetic markings (I only learned them through CLE phonics). Has anyone used Sound Spelling? It appears from the samples that they help you isolate the phoneme and choose a practice list based in the error. In the sample it seems a bit convoluted on paper, but not too complicated in practice if that makes sense?
