  1. I did. One of my absolute best friends as a teen was a guy. I had a slight crush on him at first (thought he was super cute) but we became SUCH good friends that there was no way anything could happen and the crush went away. We were so close but NEVER would anything have ever happened between us. I had many male friends that would never become anything more (and some that I wish would have become something more AT THE TIME:blush:) . Obviously now, I am SO glad nothing happened because now I have dh :001_wub: :001_wub: :001_wub: and had something else happened- -maybe he wouldn't be dh today :crying: :crying:
  2. So-- I just figured out that my 9th grader and my 2nd grader are both VERY VERY right brain based learners. How does this MAJOR left brain mom teach 2 right brained children?! Please help! Give me ideas. Give me tips. Give me suggestions. WHY did I wait so long to figure this out?!
  3. I hope this works. I am on my phone. http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/cms_content/?page=1192562&sp=1016
  4. This is something I struggle with (as I just posted) it is hard for me to go in to something with out a solid plan. This is something I will have to just learn to get past.
  5. Have I ever told you that you are a lifesaver? I have been trying to figure out the routine with ds for over a week, tweaking daily. I think that is it. I am SUCH a planner I need to not plan with him. Just have a general plan on what I want to do. HOW do I get past this planning instinct within me?! Ds is totally throwing me for a loop!!
  6. Totally forgot about that! Just signed up! I just went in to panic mode  :001_huh:
  7. I need to flesh out everything. I am adding in more daily math (LOF daily with her TT-- BUT- that may all change. She is taking the Compass test tomorrow to see if she can go into the Elementary Algebra at the local college here for dual credit.) We were going to add in health and another elective in a few weeks but I am going to do health sooner. I am going to take this week to get my outline ready (I am making this course). That way she can start that next week. She is just at the beginning of history so hasn't even got to Egypt yet and I know once we get there I will have no problems getting projects and such to get her to dig deeper with. Maybe I need to just relax as this is just our 2nd day of our 2nd week. Science is easy. I can handle fleshing that out. She has not started the Biology yet as she is still finishing Space and Earth Science from last year (we got it VERY late then had some issues with the online class- which we ended up ditching anyways) I was planning on waiting for Biology until she is done with the Space and Earth science. I will probably do that- just add more in for ICP for the time being. So I guess my big thing right now is History and Literature. I think I will take some of the high school suggestions from MOH activities for now since she is right on par with the rest of us in that right now. Does anybody have a good booklist to have her start reading from? It looks like the Great Books start with Homer (unless I am looking on the wrong list? Or are they not in any specific order?)- which is scheduled but what would you have her read before that? What classics do your 9th graders read? (not science or history related)
  8. Dd 9th grade is finishing in about 3 hours. I am planning on buying SWB History of the Ancient World Friday when we are out of town but what else? I am going to have her start reading through the Great Book but she is still at the very beginning of MFW so we need to wait until she gets into Egypt and such. WWYD to flesh this out-- A LOT? TIA :001_smile:
  9. Is there a certain amout of time it should take a kid to get through it? Or should I let ds go at his own pace until I kinda figure out how to schedule this based on what he wants to do and can do?
  10. I don't know that my son has dyscalcula but he has some major learning disorders. He just does not understand. I just ordered Developmental Math for him. Check out Dianne Crafts website and there are tips on there. Developmental Math follows her program to a T. I am praying that this will help ds. I use MUS blocks with him as well but according to Dianne Craft's website might not need them anymore?? We'll see!
  11. Thank you! I will look into the books and the videos! We do have a ton of cuisinaire rods but last time we tried them (about a year ago) they were just to abstract for him. He had to be able to see each 'block' individually on the rod as he can with MUS blocks but maybe I will try c-rods again with him.
  12. He can look up to 4 (at times) and know how many there are-- but a few times he will have to count them. It seems if they are clustered together he has to count but if they are spaced apart he can count them (but not to far apart or he will not include them). Any more than 4 he has to count every single time no matter how they are set up.
  13. We started that today with Math U See blocks. Today it didn't sink in BUT it was his first day so I am going to do that all week (and possibly next week) and see if I think that is making a difference!! :001_smile:
  14. I will go check Ruth Beechick's book out. What are the Right Start games like?
  15. Ds 7 (2nd grade) started 2nd grade and is starting to (slowly) get math. He is starting to get adding and subtracting SMALL numbers (like to 10) using MUS blocks. I made some flash cards (1's facts, 2's facts and 3's-- he is not ready for 3's yet still working on 1's and 2's) but what other games can we play to make this fun? I think we will start doing Addition War tomorrow, but what else is there to keep it interesting? He VERY much struggles to learn so we need A LOT of review. He needs concrete that he can see to understand. I don't want to buy anything (unless I have to) so basically something quick and simple that I can make would be great. (I am WAAAAY over budget and still need a few things) I was going to switch him to MUS but I bought a few extra workbooks from the bookstore and do his Horizons topically (as in we do all the simple adding and subtracting from the 2 workbooks, then go through the Horizons and do the simple adding and subtracting, then all the counting money from the 2 workbooks then skip to all the counting money in Horizons and so on and that has been doing good. I may switch him to something else once he finishes what I have but for now I am happy.) He is still working at an early 1st grade level in Math. TIA :001_smile: Also- real quick. Is there a placement test for Developmental Math? I keep going back to that. A friend linked the Dianne Craft website and it sounds like Developmental Math is exactly what she is talking about. Thoughts on this as well?

  17. Home Science Tools BTW: I just read your siggy-- you instigator! :001_tt2:
  18. Yes I would and I do. The only place I have EVER saw bad reviews are on this board. I don't know why. It is a GREAT program! They just upgraded Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 (will be doing Pre-Calc) and it is completely up to standards now. This is a GREAT program. I am very glad we did switch to TT!
  19. OOOOh I don't have that one! I have the Animals book and the Birds book though!
  20. We started with Magic School Bus Food Chain Frenzy. (Took 2 days so it doesn't count.) Now we are reading Burgess Book of Animals and Adam and His Kin.
  21. Ummmm I'm telling. You posted a pic of the C word :lol::lol:
  22. Thank you everybody!! Yes I have the Home Companion Guide as well! I got the BA and HC book in the mail yesterday and think it will be fine without the Zillions of Extra Practice Problems book! Thanks again and sorry it took me forever to get back on here!
  23. Bummer! I am sorry to hear that!!! R.I.P Beloved Printer!!!! :angelsad2: Nobody could love you like a homeschool mom
  24. When we first moved to this house (we moved in Feb and this happened in Sept after the PS started) they came to our house. One of our WONDERFUl :glare: neighbors called them saying 'their kids are not in school and out destroying the neighborhood and her kids always had bruises'... ummm yeah. Anyways- they came during a (THANKFULLY) very quiet and cooperative time with the kids. I opened the door- they told me who they were and why they were there. Ofcourse they did not tell me it it was a neighbor who called but I pretty much know who it was. Anyways- I told them that we homeschool, showed them my compliance letter from the school board. They asked to come in but I told them no. I told them we were not doing anything wrong and I proved it with my letter (and they could see my grammar posters all over the wall and the kids working-- at the time boys were watching a Leap Frog video) They asked to talk to the kids and I let them do that but only with me there (I was behind though so they knew I wasn't 'feeding' my kids answers.) We stepped outside for them to talk. Ds now 2nd IS always full of bruises. He bruises VERY easily. When he learned to ride his bike you would have thought he was a severely abused kid :001_huh: They talked to the kids (ds has autism and was at the time undiagnosed.. they didn't get much from him) but dd's told them a lot. There were 2 agents that came to the door. 1 stood by my and the other talked to the kids (maybe 5 ft in front of me) It was VERY scary but nothing happened. They smiled when leaving saying I had nothing to worry about (ya think????) A week (or so) later I got a letter in the mail saying everything has been dropped. The same neighbor called 2 more times with the exact same complaint. They came out every time with a similar experience and I reminded them of the previous times. Then I guess my neighbor got bored or found somebody else to dwell on. It is scary but you can cooperate without letting them invade your house. If they don't see anything wrong by looking at what they can see from your doorstep then they can't force themselves in. Only if they see a dangerous situation or filthy conditions can they force you to let them in. They will do that by getting police there with a warrant. It takes CPS no time at all to get that to happen. (I did a LOT of research after that first time :glare:) Not sure if we have a 'record' with them but we still have our letters from all 3 times just in case!
