  1. Haven't read any replies just cuz but I can imagine they would all end up with deleted posts and locked threads.
  2. How are you planning on doing history after this? If you are going to jump into the classical cycle then I would do a year of American History with Gov this year then jump in with Ancients next year and start the grammar stage cycle. If you have other plans, ignore that :D And yes, Hillyers A Child's History of the World is awesome! That stops at mid 1990's so you would have to find something to take you from then to today.
  3. Somewhere (no clue where now) I read that there was logic needed from Geometry for Alg 2?? I don't remember exactly what I read or where I read it now, though.
  4. Makes sense! Now, when I tell dd that she gets Alg2 next year I get to blame it on you
  5. Ohh I didn't even think about that! I know they are upgraing Algebra 2, and Pre-Calc. Didn't think they were upgrading Geometry though. I heard though, that you need Geometry before Alg 2. Is that so?
  6. I guess I am wondering if there is something in Geometry they would need it for (or atleast it would be easier for?) Honestly I don't really look at it either, yet.
  7. This is our first year using this program. I love it! Kids love it. It is working out fabulously! Now my question. In TT 5, and so far 6 dd 5th never once used the textbook. In TT Algebra 1, dd 9th has never once used the textbook. How probable is it that they will not ever use the textbook in Geometry and beyond? I am just wondering if I can stop buying the textbook.
  8. We live an hour and a half from basically anywhere. Our little town does not have a gluten free selection to speak of. Here is what I have: Brown rice flour Tapioca Flour Potato Starch Bobs Red Mill All Purpose Gluten Free flour mix Xanthan Gum Then of course I have baking soda and powder and all the typical baking supplies! I can't seem to find any with what I have. All I am finding includes millet flour, garbanzo bean flour. Can anything that I have be substituted for those? TIA!
  9. Thank you! I will search those. I do mean the whole process! Otherwise, I think even if it is not complete it will still work well! I will document what they are doing and bring it all together 'presentation' style :)
  10. Did you get the complete set? DVD's and book? Have her start with 1 lesson a day and see how that goes. If she can up it go to 2 a day. My kids do 1 a day most days thought. Have her watch the lecture then do the work either in the book or just on paper.
  11. Our homeschool group is having a History Fair on Nov 15. Would we have time to mummify a chicken??
  12. I just bought 25lbs of brown rice flour. What do I need to add to that (and how much) to make it an all purpose baking mix? We are new to gluten free as ds is just starting on it. TIA :001_smile:
  13. What do you use and what does a day (or week or month) in your homeschool look like? I really like AO and am 99% sure we will use it next year but I want to get all my 'what if's' out now ;) TIA
  14. We are going to do Ambleside Online next year (ds's will do year 2 together, dd now 5th?? I am thinking year 4?) But, here is my question. There is so much good in years 2 and 3 I don't want her to miss out, ya know? So could an older child double up on AO years until we hit a good stride doing just 1? I mean, could a 6th grader do years 2 and 3 in 1 year? (I would do weeks 1 and 2 in week 1, 3 and 4 in week 2 etc for both years) Or would that simply be to much? It doesn't 'appear' to be to much on the surface but I don't want to start and find we are in over our heads, ya know? Has anybody done this? If you think this would not be good to do, what would you recommend I have her read from those years over the summer do kinda get up to speed? Also, do you think year 4 would be a good starting point for a 6th grader starting AO? (That is of course, if we don't do years 2 and 3 together) Thoughts? I will look at any and all advice on this. I don't want to overwhelm her but I don't want to miss anything either. I am torn!
  15. Bumping in hopes to get some thoughts on either or both programs! :001_smile: I am really interested in thoughts on SS Biology. I know there are many people that like BJU.
  16. I wondered if I needed to worry. She was 11points away from scoring advanced on the test so its not like she is struggling at all. That just happened to be her lowest score.
  17. I made that mistake before. I got the book Pre-Algebra for Dummies when we were waiting for her program to come in last year (It was on back order and I thought we could use that to get started) After she realized I didn't call her a dummy she then said I thought she was dumb. :001_huh: I had to do a LOT of digging to get out of that one!
  18. :bigear: I was wondering about this as well. I am switching my younger 3 to it next year and will use it as written (atleast for my first year- the plan is to use it as written unless I find after my 1st year I need to do some tweaking) I have been wondering about switching a high schooler to this (so dd who will be in 10th next year can do it as well)
  19. What can you recommend for a freshman? That was dd's weakest point on her standardized testing last year as an 8th grader (though she still tested well into proficient). I am thinking about getting something to supplement this area. Thoughts?
