  1. Blame Hamas for the Palestinian dead. They began the massacre. If a man kills people in public and then runs home and hides in his house with his wife and kids, are the police supposed to shrug their shoulders and let him go? What if he says, “as long as I’m alive, I will never stop killing?” And he shoots at his neighbors from his house? Leave him alone bc his wife and kids are in there? Yahya Sinwar (called the butcher of Khan Yunis for killing Palestinians suspect of spying for Israel) said only a few days ago that October 7th was just a rehearsal. Using civilians as shields is a considered (by some) to be a war crime. Hamas can turn over all hostages and the bodies of those hostages they killed and then surrender. Then the war will stop.
  2. Warning about sexual violence U.S. State Dept. says the reason Hamas hasn’t released more women hostages because Hamas knows the women will tell how mistreated they’ve been. There has been more information about the rape and mutilation of women during the initial terrorist assault from eyewitnesses. This stmt is from yesterday’s briefing. I think most people know that the women still being held won’t be coming out (if they are ever released and not dead already) praising the availability of feminine products. https://www.state.gov/?post_type=state_briefing&%3Bp=92333 QUESTION: Thank you. Going back to your answer to the question about the reports of rape of Israeli women by Hamas and use of sexual violence as a war crime – as a weapon of war, you said we’ve seen Hamas commit atrocities. We obviously condemn atrocities. But you didn’t use the words rape or sexual violence. And I’m wondering if there’s a reason for that and not a more explicit condemnation of rape. MR MILLER: Look, only because we haven’t made an independent assessment, our own. We’ve obviously seen the reports that Hamas has committed sexual violence. They’ve committed rape. We have no reason at all to doubt those reports. When you look at all of the atrocities that Hamas carried out on October 7th and the atrocities that they’ve carried out since, the fact that they continue to hold women hostages, the fact that they continue to hold children hostages, the fact that it seems one of the reasons they don’t want to turn women over that they’ve been holding hostage and the reason this pause fell apart is they don’t want those women to be able to talk about what happened to them during their time in custody – certainly there is very little that I would put beyond Hamas when it comes to its treatment of civilians, and particularly its treatment of women.
  3. Speaking of, did your husband’s best friend ever get arrested? I seem to recall he something seriously illegal, like embezzling or stealing funds?
  4. And are we sure it’s not *French* benefits? From the French bc they are so classy and business-wise? So the tradition began of the French business owners giving Christmas benefits unlike say, Ebenezer Scrooge (British). Then the tradition spread to the early U.S. through Benjamin Franklin, along with syphillis.
  5. What if the owner uses his own salary? How is that accounted for?
  6. USS Carney and commercial ships under attack in Red Sea, according to the Pentagon. Not much info https://apnews.com/article/red-sea-houthi-yemen-ships-attack-israel-hamas-war-gaza-strip-716770f0a780160e9abed98d3c48fbde
  7. I agree about the multiple threads! She was THAT special, IMO. dementia is heartbreaking 💔
  8. I really like the Saltine Cracker Candy Line a 15” x 10” sheet pan with foil and spray with cooking spray. Cover the sheet with whole square saltine crackers. It usually takes about 1 1/2 - 2 sleeves of crackers, depending on how many crackers are broken in the sleeves. Combine 1 cup of butter and 1 cup of packed brown sugar in a saucepan. Bring to boil over medium heat & let boil for 2-3 minutes. Immediately pour over saltines and spread to cover. Bake 5 mins. at 300F. Remove from oven and sprinkle with 1 1/2 cups of chocolate chips or chopped chocolate. Stick back in oven for 1-2 mins. Remove and spread melted chocolate over toffee layer. optional: top with sprinkles, chopped nuts, chopped peppermints, melted white chocolate (lightly drizzle). cool and then break into pieces.
  9. Why are you asking? Are you listing something as within walking distance for a specific reason (like real estate or an Air BnB?) Or did someone list something as within walking distance and you disagree? Or is someone disagreeing with you?
  10. Assume whatever you want. I pointed out a theme I thought was not appropriate for grades younger than grade 7. I think normalizing aggression and conflating it was affection is seriously messed up and doesn’t belong in an elementary school library. I’m not shocked I’m in the minority here.
  11. Wow, I thought I was on Facebook for a second
  12. I should have specified for under 7th grade you’re fine with it? bc I said I think the book Drama would not be appropriate under 7th grade
  13. You’re fine with a boy acting aggressively towards a girl because he has feelings for her? I posted about it hours ago. I’ll assume you missed that post of mine
  14. You need bone up on this topic. From the time Roe passed, groups worked to overturn it. It was no secret. No subterfuge was involved.
  15. And it failed. your link limits the number of articles one can read without registering or signing up. I fat fingered it and managed to get the part of the country where it happened but I could not get back to read that site. so I googled. And found out it didn’t pass. Dayton Library in Washington state
  16. Most societies have standards. To use a book mentioned…Flowers in the Attic, which involves severe child abuse and brother-sister incest does not belong in elementary or middle school libraries. I also thinks it is such garbage that schools shouldn’t waste their money buying it for HS libraries, either. Yes, if your 10 yo middle schooler wants to read Flowers in the Attic from his middle school library, I think he should be denied that, whether I have kids or not.
  17. Links to where this has happened
  18. It is being removed from some libraries because it is deemed to be inappropriate for the children that use the libraries but it remains in libraries where it is appropriate. That’s not banning. The definition of banning is being cheapened when it is used in such a disingenuous manner as advocated by people in this thread.
  19. Come now. . Feel free to advocate for what you think are appropriate age levels for books and readers but don’t call it book banning when you don’t agree with someone else’s opinions about what THEY think are appropriate.
