I suggested this to DH and his brother since their business includes outdoor painting. My BIL says that they would but they can’t afford the liability insurance that they would need to cover all the unlucky ladies and gentlemen walking under ladders. -
When I have worked jobs that required overnight hours, the pay was different for hours when I was allowed to sleep. I would be careful of overtime laws. If, for example, you are paying $20/hour, and are budgeting $480 per day, it would be safer to pay $20 for the first 8, $30 for the next 8 ( time and a half) and $10 for the overnight hours.

I think you should go offer to teach your son. My MIL assumed those things were only my job. It was not a good message for my husband to get.

I would set hours when you do not need him to be in your Dad’s space (e.g. he is with your dad from 8 - 8 ) and then pay a flat fee, for those hours with the assumption that if your dad fell or something and needed care in the night you would pay more. And then I’d pay his standard rate for 40 hours and time and a half over that.
