  1. Are you thinking of Vocabulary from Classical Roots? That is what SWB recommends in TWTM. It is a workbook series and level A is supposed to be started in 7th grade.
  2. I highly suggest listening to SWB lectures on writing. http://www.welltrainedmind.com/store/audio-products/audio-lectures.html She has one mp3 lecture for each stage. They are refreshing, funny, and super helpful. They truly changed the way I approach writing instruction. Blessings!
  3. I am looking forward to using Invitation to the Classics by Louis Cowan and Os Guinness.
  4. You do 7/6. If he gets and 80% or better on all tests in 7/6 then you can move to Pre-Algebra. If you think he needs more practice at the end of 7/6 then do 8/7 before moving into Pre-Algebra. :001_smile:
  5. Sorry, I guess I was a bit vague. I was thinking about history.
  6. please share how you do it. :001_smile: THANKS! I am mostly asking about history.
  7. If you don't have any more kiddos in the wings, you can sell the curriculum you are done with to help cover the cost of the next year. Make sure you get TOG print not DE :D. Previous posters are right on about the abundance of used Saxon and Apologia. And use the library whenever possible.
  8. Found some samples here: http://www.classiquestscience.com/
  9. I would stick it out with Saxon. It is such a solid program! Art Reed is a man who will answer your questions for free and has a very helpful website. http://www.homeschoolwithsaxon.com/index.php
  10. Have you checked out Tell Me More? That is what we are leaning towards. Rainbow Resource gave it a great review.
  11. We use the ones by Knowledge Box. For the youngers, it is in the form of lapbooks. For my older, it is more like a notebook. It helps her retain what she has read. I think you can download a free module here: http://www.knowledgeboxcentral.com/apfupr.html You can get them as ebooks at currclick.
  12. Email Art Reed! He is VERY helpful :001_smile: Art.Reed@homeschoolwithsaxon.com I've already talked to him on the phone today, so when he replies to you, please post his answer. :tongue_smilie:
  13. I think TOG has you send in your Loom CD when you upgrade to DE.
  14. I am not 100% sure where I saw this, but I *think* they suggest Latin in the Christian Trivium. Here is a link: http://www.latintrivium.com/ Latin Alive looks interesting too. http://classicalacademicpress.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=14 Blessings!
  15. If he likes the R level reading, then I would let home read it and just do the questions orally.
  16. Analytical Grammar - the sentences had no literary quality at all.
  17. Thanks all! Open and go sounds good to me, so both books it is.
  18. Do you *need* both the student and teacher book?
  19. English for the Thoughtful Child by Greenleaf Press is gentle yet complete, IMO. They have a volume 2 as well. You can see them at www.cbd.com or at www.greenleafpress.com. They come as a printed book or a PDF download there. We do copywork as a separate subject and skip those lessons. Also, the picture studies are in black and white, so we sometimes do them sometimes not.
  20. I would use a program like Startwrite, and make my own copywork sheets for handwriting in the cursive font I like. This could be considered spelling too at this young age. We use Spelling Wisdom by SCM starting in the middle of third grade.
  21. Good Morning All! This is the PM I sent to Brindee regarding Biology. My daughter will be doing 9th grade in the fall and here is the Biology plan for her. We are using Biology 101 DVD's as the base. Samples Here: http://www.the101series.com/ Best Price Here: http://rainbowresource.com/product/B...131134-1747005 Then we will be adding living books (which is what the course suggests). We are going to use several from Master Books as well as our library. Here are a few we chose: http://rainbowresource.com/product/B...131134-1747005 http://rainbowresource.com/product/E...131134-1747005 http://rainbowresource.com/product/G...131134-1747005 http://rainbowresource.com/product/E...131134-1747005 My daughter is also not interested in dissection, so I located some virtual options. Here are some sites I found: http://shs.westport.k12.ct.us/mjvl/b...t/crayfish.htm http://www.mhhe.com/biosci/genbio/vi..._14/BL_14.html http://library.thinkquest.org/05aug/...ctionGame.html http://www.mhhe.com/biosci/genbio/vi..._16/BL_16.html Hope this helps your search. :001_smile:
