  1. I post mainly on the general board but occassionally I get over here too! I have always homeschooled. dd9 is the artist, gifted in reading comprehension, vocabulary ds7 is the engineer, loves legos, great at math, logic dd5 is the musician, perfectionist
  2. I am fairly new to the board. Just curious to see how many other cold-weather lovers are out there. Any broomball enthusiasts?
  3. I love to talk animals so bring on the questions. I did a residency in large animal internal medicine, so horses and cows will always be my personal favorites. But now I practice small animal part-time due to being home with my 3 kids. I currently have no pets, if you can believe that, but someday I would love to have a farm.
  4. Daniels Farm Elementary in Trumbull, CT K- Mrs. Newkirk 1st-Mrs. Gottschalk 2nd-Mrs. Weston 3rd-Mrs. Andes 4th-Mrs. Bouvier 5th-Mrs. Ruskin 6th-Mr. Gabriel The principal was Mr. Hunyadi Funny that I can remember all those names and forget my own children's names at times!!
  5. I had an ectopic pregnancy between my first and second children. There was extreme abdominal pain and that only began by the time I had lost a liter of blood into my abdomen. Needless to say I had surgery in the middle of the night. I would recommend going in for an ultrasound. It could be an ovarian cyst or your appendix flaring up. Don't ignore it!
  6. I'm fairly new to the board. I usually post responses to vet questions as I am one (horses are my favorite species to work on, but I only do small animal part-time now). I have been married over ten years. We've homeschooled our three kids, dd9, ds7, and dd5, since eldest was in K. I love reading, cooking, and broomball (we live in the land of the frozen lakes). I 've been following the recommendations in WTM for most of my curriculum choices. My secret ambition is to relearn piano and perform with Jars of Clay someday....doubtful!
  7. For future reference, horses can be given Aspirin but I doubt you have any horse size pills on hand. I would not have recommended it for a leg wound. Phenylbutazone is an excellent pain killer and inflammation reducer for musculoskeletal injuries. Banamine is better for visceral problems like colic. Antibiotics and a current tetanus status should be your concern with a wound. You may also need to have it regularly debrided if you are not having it sutured.
  8. Put butter on the pill before you try to put it in the cat's mouth. Between gravity and the added slipperiness it should go down. i would definitely use a towel to wrap the cat. If all else fails, ask your vet to dispense injectable antibiotics or send the kitty home with an IV if very sick. I will occassionally do this with fractious patients.
