  1. I have never even looked at The Core Knowledge so I am sorry, I am no help.
  2. Thank you everyone! I feel so much better. I will be happy to know that I can still use my RS manipulatives. We can still use the card games and progress nicely. I appreciate the help.
  3. We were using RS and I like it but my daughter really needed more worksheets for retention. At first I was only going to supplement but we are really enjoying it. The price difference is amazing and I just do not want to shell out $60.00 if I do not need to for the next level of RS. I would like to add in LOF for extra fun but I need to know if MM will be enough by itself. We are using the Light Blue Series. I have two children using it. First and Fourth grades. Thanks!
  4. I purchased the ebook. It was a lot of printing but all black ink. I believe at the time there was huge price difference between the ebook and printed copy. Plus, I was being really impatient and wanted it now.:001_smile: I am very happy with it and consider it one of my best homeschooling purchases...and there have many over the years.
  5. I have used this for about a year now. I really, really like it. I use it as guide just to make sure I do not have any gaps or that I miss something. Some use it to plan out curriculum but that was more complicated than I wanted. I really just wanted a way to ease my mind in making sure we had it all covered. Every few weeks I sit down with it and check it off for each child. If I see we may miss something I find an easy way to cover it.
  6. We have tried many and have had tremendous success with AAR. My son struggled alot and needed something visual. He is doing fantastic with AAR and just loves it. Plus it is designed to go along with AAS. HTH!
  7. Thank you all for the great hints. I am taking cash to be safe. I am very excited and now I know what to try for sure. Apples and potato pearls for sure! I wouldn't have thought about the clothes. I dress pretty modestly already but now I can double check to make sure I do not wear anything offensive. Love the oatmeal recipe. I will making it. I will let you know how it goes!
  8. I was wondering if anyone here has gone to one of the LDS Canneries? I am going tomorrow night with a friend to the one in Georgia. I am trying to get a feel for what to expect. I have never been. Any opinions on food quality? Likes or dislikes? Do you know if they take debit/credit cards or just cash? I would like to be prepared to make the most of it. I am just getting started on long term storage needs. Thanks, Tracy
  9. Love the notebooks. So worth the extra $'s. I found by the time I printed and put in a binder it was only a few more $'s anyway and the quality is hands down top notch. Plus you get the extras and the schedule. Love Them!
  10. I think it is very much worth it, depending on your needs. The quality is high and it is well written. So easy to implement, just open and go. Even though it only takes 15-20 minutes for each session, alot is learned. It is more than just learning letter sounds, it really does a good job of the 5 skills she lists. I bought it because I have a struggling boy reader and he just wasn't getting it. His father was never a good reader and I was determined to change that. Even though it seems gimmicky my son (7) loves it. He is all about Ziggy and ca't wait to play the rhyming card game. He usually hates to color but he loves these sheets. My only hang up is the production schedule. I can not wait for the next level because he has caught up and is ready to take off but if I had little ones and the extra money I would buy again.
  11. We started back on Monday. We did our festivites over the weekend. It just to sticking hot here to be outside so we went ahead and started. I think I will appreciate the extra buffer.
  12. I just don't know what to proceede to. I do not want to totally switch gears because it is clicking with the AAR. He has struggled greatly and really loves this program. He hates school but thinks this program is the bomb. Has anyone used AAS as a foundation for reading? Is it practical and could I stretch it out slowly until AAR1 was released? I am thinking that once we complete AAR1 he will have had enough of a foundation to jump from if the others are severely delayed. Praying for production to speed up!
  13. I am really frustrated with the fact that they keep pushing back the date on Level 1. I knew going into this that I would be cutting it close, but now they are saying late August/early September. I really can not wait that long. Do I just go on to AAS 1 and hope that it will work? Will they be enough alike that when AAR 1 is released I can just pick it up and go. So frustrated.
  14. I would absolutely without a doubt get the new book!
  15. I would like to know the answer to this also. We are switching to Math U See. I am confident in the program up to pre algebra. I have lots of friends who will, are, and have used up to that point. But then they switch to Teaching Textbooks. They just like that program so much. I have a few years to make mind up but I am interested in knowing what others here think. Tracy
  16. I bought mine at the conference and I love it. Of I course I was able to get it autographed and that is fabulous. I think it is a much bigger help than the previous editions in terms of practicality. It is very detailed. I have to say though for sentimental reasons the 1st is still my favorite. I remember pulling my kids out of school, thinking how am I going to homeschool? I was at B&N looking at what they had(year 2000) I had no clue about homeschooling. There was this this big beautiful book named The Well Trained Mind- who wouldn't want there kid to be like that. It changed my life. Now that I have had all these years to reasearch its scary to think what I could have fallen prey to in my naiveness(not a word). I will always be grateful for her hard work. Go buy it even if just for yourself. The Rhetoric stage is unbeliavable and I plan on giving myself the education I never had. Tracy
  17. Pathway Readers. Maybe they are known than I realized, I saw some a friend had and fell in love. They are simple, no gender preference, very gentle. Most of very cheap and good quality! Tracy
  18. I am very excited about seeing that! But now that it is out does anyone know what she has planned next? Isn't she almost done with WWE 3 and4 also. Will she start the next volume of history or go to the next level of writing? Tracy
  19. For my little ones we do AH in the summer and on breaks. When we go on vacation we are usually doing stuff that would pertain to US History so I will have them study about where ever we are going. My high schooler we do AH with our world history rotations.
  20. I love this stuff. I feel so much better in the morning! My doctor advised me to take it. I would fall asleep but then wake up in the middle of the night and couldn't fall back asleep. FRUSTRATING! Anyway, my pills are 3 mg each. At first I would take 2 if I was going to bed early. You will be in a deep sleep and it will take you a minute to wake up. But after about 15 min I am awake and don't feel groggy. Now that I feel like I am "caught up" I only take 1. Now if I know I HAVE to go,go,go for the next day I will still take 2. Good luck I hope this helps! Tracy
  21. After much inspiration and confidence after the conference I am all in. The funny thing is when I first bought it 10 yeears ago it seemed overwhelming. After all this time of trying different programs and doing it on my own, it seems simple. It's like a breathe of fresh air to pare down and use it as it is. Tracy
  22. I never posted until this year but I have been lurking for about 10 years. It's hard to believe it's been that long. I have learned most of what I know from these boards. If I have a problem or just a curiosty about ANYTHING the answer is usually on here. Tracy
  23. We have tried just about every phonics program there is. The best one I have found is OPGTR. It is very simple and straight forward. Very teacher friendly, and with the extras they have it is adaptable to the kids taste. I have found simple is better for us. All the bells and whistles only serve as a distraction for us. Tracy
  24. Thanks for the your responses. I am glad to know that I am not the only one needing a list. I guess I just want things to be easier for her than they were for me. I felt like my parents did not prepare me for reality at all. MamaT my heart truly goes out to you with your son in the service. I will pray for you to have strength and courage. I have heard that the Lord provides grace as we need it. I can see where that would apply for you. I can't imagine how difficult it must be to not know so many things about what he is doing and his safety. On the other hand you must be incredbly proud of him also. Please thank him for his service and I appreciate your kind words and wisdom.:grouphug:
  25. I totally forgot about the book hitting the head idea! That is one I need to implement with my 8dd. She wanders through the house and NOTHING ever gets back where it needs to. Thanks for the reminder! :iagree:
