  2. My dd will be doing a study abroad semester at The Hague this spring. She takes Vyvance. We have been getting conflicting information from various sources about prescription medication in The Netherlands and the Opium Act. Her study abroad program at her university is looking into it. Anyone with experience or advice. This could stop her from going. I probably should have looked into it more but never really thought it would be an this big an issue. Thank you
  3. Dd (20) is attending The Hague University for the spring semester. We are looking for some practical advice about living in The Netherlands and maybe some other's experience. The University has been helpful with academics but less so with student life. She will have a few choices in regards to living arrangements and would be grateful for any recommendations. While I'm thrilled for my daughter, I admit to being a terrible worrier. She will be our first to go abroad for an entire semester. Thanks all
  4. My older 2 children were part SAR through Civil Air Patrol from the ages of 16-20. Son was part of the spotter team in the planes and my daughter was part of the ground team. There were lots of training missions and several live rescues. Sadly one did not end well for an elderly man but the family was so grateful for knowing what happened that it really helped my kids cope with the sadness. Search and Rescue does require a certain resiliency but it was a very good experience overall.
  5. One of my dh's customers gifted us with 5lb trimmed beef tenderloin. Never cooked one before. Can anyone help with tips and maybe a recipe? There will be 10 of us for Christmas Eve dinner. Thank you
  6. Thank you so much for the suggestions and support. Someone asked about DE classes. She hasn't taken any as we are very rural but she did take AP Computer Science and Derek Owens Precalc. Honestly, the writing is what she's having the most problem with. She's a very good writer but slow. I'm afraid I may have dropped the ball with her. My oldest is an Aspie was a handful. Dd issues are much more subtle and and recent.
  7. She's taking Calc 1, a computer science lab course, an honor's seminar on the brain and honors eng comp. 14 credits. She's having trouble understanding what she's reading (this is new and concerning). She is going to meet with each professor next week. She currently has A's and high B's but I'm seeing a swift decline in her the last week or so. I'll get her a doctor app't asap. Again thank you
  8. She's sleeping well and taking Vit b-complex. She's happy at school and her twin brother is 10 rooms down the hall. I think she puts a lot of pressure on herself. I saw a change in her after she had her tonsils out a year ago. She became more scattered and I asked about maladaptive daydreaming as this was mentioned by her doctor. I'm wondering if the college may better equipped to help her than her primary care. Thank you
  9. I was going to post this in the college board but hope it's okay here. My dd start college this fall. She has a heavy workload and is having a lot of trouble keeping up. She has had problems paying attention for the last year or so. Her mind wanders during conversation and she loses time while doing homework. She;s also exhausted by 8 pm and can barely read after that time. She's seen her doctor and her iron and vit D levels were low. She's been on a vitamin regime for the last 6 months and physically feels better. However, her concentration has gotten much worse. I think some of it stress. She has full-ride scholarship to maintain. Her doctor mentioned ADD at one point but the testing isn't covered by insurance. Any suggestions would appreciated. Should she see someone at the school or her own doctor? Any strategies for studying? She's not opposed to meds but it isn't her first choice. She never showed the classic signs of ADD when she young. My oldest was on Adderall for a few years when he was younger but his issues were clear. She is literally doing homework most of her waking hours. She lives on campus but has been home on weekends and I have watched her struggle. I think she needs to talk to someone at school but she doesn't know who. Thank you
  10. Boathouse Honey Banana Almond protein smoothie or any protein flavor. Everytime I pass the fridge, I take a sip. Usually by the end of the day I've finished one. I've struggled with anorexia for decades. I have six children and being pregnant was the only time it was completely under control. Recent stress has resulted in a flare up so I have to be extra careful. I've found liquid calories to be easier to deal with. Never bulimic so don't know if my strategies would be helpful Susan was JPinAL before board upgrde
  11. We live here so feel free to pm for specifics(especially where not to stay). Agree with others. Be sure to go to Oak Mountain Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Dd works there and it's one of the few raptor rehabs in the country. The zoo is worth a trip as is the Botanical gardens. The Art musuem has plenty for kids to do as well as great exhibits for the adults. The Civil Rights Museum and park are great. Susan was JPinAL before board change
  12. My daughter has had the most success with this: Sodium Sulfacemide 10%/ Sulfur 2% Cleanser It's prescription and not really cheap but I shopped around and found a price we could live with.
  13. Phenergan suppositories were the only thing that helped the nausea for dd after tonsils. She was in terrible pain for days but she was also 17. Doctor warned us it could be bad.
  14. Hi all. My old forum name was jpinAL but I couldn't sigh in. I'm down to one child homeschooling now and he doesn't need a lot of oversight. He's 16. I've been homeschooling for 20 years and have 2 college grads and will have 3 in college next year. I haven't worked outside the house since 1992, We've owned a hobby farm until recently. I do have a BA in math. I was teaching a few classes in computer tech at medical college before my first child was born, My work references are so old and I don't have a clue how to explain the last 20 years. Any experience I have is outdated. I really do not want to teach although I know that is an option. I'm rambling. We really need the added income after dh has had some medical issues, Any suggestions on writing a resume? Thank you
