  1. Does anyone know of a Bible curriculum based on the Revised Common Lectionary readings? I see lots of these during Lent and Advent but I'd love to see something that covers the entire liturgical year, and based on the daily lectionary so that when we do morning prayer or whatever the Scripture reading is the same one we talk about that day for the Bible lesson. Does that make sense? If there isn't one, I'd be tempted to make one up myself. In all that spare time I have. We are Anglican but wouldn't object to another denominational origin for the curriculum.
  2. I think food really is getting more expensive, like Wendy said. I used to be able to shop for the four (now five) of us on $75 a week at the grocery + $100 a month at Costco (we barely eat any meat and do a LOT of rice & beans). No way is that happening now! I'm just thankful the hubs has been getting a lot of extra consulting jobs on the side. Otherwise I don't know what we'd be doing.
  3. I am a BIG Stretch-Tite fan, especially now that it comes with the plastic slide cutter. It doesn't stick to itself, just the stuff it's supposed to stick to. I've never used anything else I liked more.
  4. Others will be able to tell you better, but we had good friends who had a plum job in Switzerland (he was a professor at an American college there) and they ended up returning to the states and leaving the job because their canton REFUSED to allow them to home school. I don't know the name of the canton, I believe it was in the south.
  5. I am about 3/4 through the first one! What a page turner. So glad I picked it up!
  6. There aren't many that I can think of. Good stories seldom hammer you over the head with something obvious. Thinking here of C.S. Lewis' bits regarding "true myth," etc. But am curious to know what others come up with.
  7. You can definitely nurse in a ring sling or a wrap. It takes practice, but it can be done. If you go to the boards at thebabywearer.com you can find tons of tutorials and helpful advice. I didn't clue in to babywearing until my oldest was 8 months old. He was definitely my fussiest child. DS2 and DD were worn in a sling or wrap or mei tai from birth, and they were SO much happier and relaxed. Having my hands free is a big bonus! Everybody has different ways to cope, but my imagination fails me when I try to imagine our lives without babywearing. DD is 11 months old and she has ridden in a stroller twice in her life. It's just so much easier (and less expensive!) not to have all this heavy equipment to lug around with her, you know? To be clear, I totally count babywearing as holding the baby. :)
  8. :iagree: BioLogos is working on a curriculum *supplement* (http://biologos.org/projects/curriculum), but it's going to be a while, and it's the only thing I've seen that's even close to what I want.
  9. http://www.eyelevelbooks.com/ Not really a site to tell you what NOT to read, but she's rapidly building a database of thoughtful, positive recommendations.
  10. Definitely buy your doc some flowers! My oldest son's godmother is a nurse practitioner who does a lot of work with Lyme patients, and she was telling me the research on the prevalence and scope of Lyme is showing that it is way under-diagnosed-- so it's providential that your doc even thought of testing for it, as many don't. Also, be prepared for your child to feel worse before he feels better during the period when the antibiotics are killing off the Lyme. My son's "godbrother" had to take a semester off from college during his treatment because it wiped him out so completely. Good luck!
