  1. I have KonMaried most of our book shelves, :hurray: and now have several boxes of books that I would like to sell. I could list them on the WTM sale and swap board, but I think it would be simpler to sell them locally. There are local home schooling forums where I could list them, or I could take them to Half Price Books to sell. Our friends are having a yard sale this weekend, and I could also sell them there. I have lots of children's picture books that are in very good condition, some paperbacks (also in very good condition) and some home schooling books. I really have no idea how to price them though. Suggestions welcome :001_smile:
  2. So, if this article is accurate, it seems that he was working on the VA building. From the article, "Joshua Duggar was sent to work with a youth program renovating a former Veterans Affairs building in Little Rock for three months." ETA: No real news here, just piecing the story together. Seems JD was working on Gothard's building while recieving "counseling."
  3. Thank you for posting this link. I think his blog provides an important perspective for understanding some of the factors that may have led JD to act as he did, which is something I have been seeking to understand better.
  4. Does anyone know if Gothard is the "guy in Little Rock" with whom Josh did the remodeling project? Could this be the project? if so, could JB and M consider hanging out with Gothard equivalent to "getting counseling?" If so, that is sad indeed.
  5. Wow - thanks for all of the wonderful ideas! Planning to explore all of the links this evening . . . :001_smile:
  6. Thanks. I was afraid y'all would say that. Maybe the keyboard will be in our budget at some point :)
  7. We'd like to get a software program that will record piano music, and transcribe the notes into sheet music. Most programs like this require a MIDI input. We have a piano, and a good quality microphone, but not an electric keyboard. Thanks!
  8. Legos have always been our go-to gift for ds 12, but we'd like to do something different this year. He'd like video games, but we'd like to get something other than electornics / video games. He does like board games. His uncle plans to spend about $100, so we need soem larger gift ideas as well as ideas for smaller gifts / stocking stuffers. He also wants slippers and a new pillow, which he will get :hat:
  9. Patty Joanna, Love the quote in your signature line, and thanks for more good advice.
  10. Stephanie, I wanted to "like" your post, but I'm not sure how much I really "like" the idea of having that many guitars in the house :tongue_smilie:
  11. Thanks to everyone who replied. I really appreciate your detailed comments, flyingiguana and thanks for the link to the guitar forum. Bugsmom and Nick and Zack's mom, it's great to hear that you've had good experiences with Seagull guitars. J-rap, I spent four hours in a guitar shop on Friday and went back this afternoon You're right, there's no substitute for getting good advice, and letting ds try before we buy. His uncle plans to purchase the guitar from the Guitar Center as a gift for him - they have a great return policy, so he can even exchange it or upgrade to another guitar after he opens the box and plays it at home. Meanwhile, I met an extremely knowledgeable and well-informed sales associate there this afternoon, and we will ask for him personally when we go back to make a final purchase.
  12. Ds 15 is primarily a classical guitar player, but recently he's been playing his acoustic guitar with the worship teams at church. He plays on the Kidz Worship team, which leads worship for the Pre-school to 5th grade set; he occasionally plays on the worship team in the "Big Church" auditorium, and he frequently plays on the team that leads worship for the high school aged youth group. The worship teams include other acoustic guitar players, electric guitar players, a drummer, vocalists, and keyboard player. We're looking for a new electric acoustic guitar for him - possibly a dreadnought with a cedar top, gravitating toward Seagull or Breedlove which seem to be well made guitars (in the less than $500 range) and a good value for a player at his current level of ability. Any thoughts on dreadnought vs. concert guitars for this type of venue? Looking for a guitar that is well suited to both strumming and picking. Thanks!
  13. We are in a similar situation. I would love to hear more about your experiences with Samaritan so far. Feel free to PM me.
  14. DH bought two packages of organic chicken breasts last week on Thursday. He accidently left them in the car. Until Sunday morning  The temps have been below freezing here, and the car was parked outside. He thinks they will be fine since the temperature in the car was colder than the temp would have been in the fridge anyway. But I think the thought of eating them is
  15. I haven't read the entire thread, but our ds 12 is a lot like your ds 8. The links in my signature line have provided invaluable advice. I'm on my way out the door right now, but I may be able to add more specific details later. All the Best, ELaurie
  16. Khan Academy is free and user freindly, with math courses through Calculus.
  17. We're reading it now, and listening to the audio version read by Derek Jacobi. Many thanks to the board member who recommended the audio version. Ds 12 and 15 love it - especially the gruesome battle scenes. Is there a film version that's worth watching (after we finish the book, of course :tongue_smilie: )?
  18. I wonder if it would be helpful to contact the Circe Institute directly and ask them to recommend a tutor? Or, you could join the LTOW Yahoo group, and ask if someone in the group is available to mentor your ds.
  19. It's about thinking outside-of-the-box, following one's interests and passions, something like that :tongue_smilie: And a recommendation for you: How to be a Highschool Superstar: A Revolutionary Plan to Get Into College by Standing Out (Without Burning Out)
  20. Our favorites are the Pentel 9 mm At our house, they last until we lose them :001_smile:
