I bought them, but do not use them. We do fine just using the book and study method.

Thanks, any others?:)

Okay I make egg noodles all the time but I want to try spaghetti/macaroni/etc type noodles, does anyone have a good recipe? I'd be very grateful. :001_smile:

Could anyone recommend a good place to buy a bunch of vanilla beans? Has anyone bought any from ebay? Is there a seller that you've had good experience with? Thanks:001_smile:

Thanks for all the help. Decided that Top Secret was the way to go. Even though I love the idea of Little Passports(the little trinkets, suit case, letters, etc) I realized educationally they'd probably get more out of Top Secret. Thanks again the dc are excited to get the first one.:D

Any other info anyone can give me about Trisms? It's such a relief to know I can skip IEW and to hear they are good for high school. What are most of the complaints about History Makers? My original plan was to do it over to years 7th and 8th that way we could take more time and go more in depth.

Oh one other question about trisms, is the high school classes meaty enough for high school?:001_smile:

Great ideas! :D Thanks to all of you. Can't wait to get this started.:001_smile:

Thanks for the IEW advice. Off to look at it again. Asking on the high school board too. Thanks a bunch.:001_smile:

I asked this on the K-8 board and was told I should ask here.
I love the look of Trisms but for some reason when I look at IEW I break out into a could sweat:confused: so can you use Trisms without IEW? How hard would it be to replace it with something else? Thanks.:001_smile: If it makes a difference I'm looking at using History Makers for 7th and 8th, taking longer to go over things in a little more depth and then using their other courses through high school. Any input would be greatly appreciated. :001_smile:

Thanks! That ones cheaper too!:D Anyother ideas?:001_smile:

Hi. I'm looking for any reviews on Root Vue or anything similar. Any in particular you'd recommend or had any experience with would be super helpful. The dc love to plant and garden so I'd like them to get a chance to see what happens under the soil. Thanks.:001_smile:

Wow! Thanks so much for the list of countries.:001_smile: I'm really liking both of them, one for the little fun factor and trinkets and the other for more educational. Thank you for all the info. It's been a great help.:001_smile:

Anybody else want to chime in?:D

I had both, starting when my daughter was 4. Both were over her head at that time, but I'm renewing both subscriptions now that she's 6 and can read these things and get into them more.
Top Secret Adventures will have more to them. You start with a puzzle, then you get a pamphlet to read. It has more meat to it, and your children will probably learn more.
Little Passports is more unique and you get a suitcase to hold all your country adventures. You'll get something unique each time - such as an Egyptian artifact to chisel out, or a stuffed animal tiger. That made it quite memorable for my daughter. You'll also get a letter and some kind of word puzzle. There is also a small online component.
I'd take advantage of Little Passports on sale at the HSBC this month. If you wanted to just choose one, I am not sure which one to suggest. I can post pictures of sample kits we get from each if you'd like.
Thanks. That would be great if you could post the samples.:001_smile: I really like the look of Little Passports and think they would get a kick out of the little trinkets each month. I haven't been able to get much of a feel for the Top Secret Adventures off the website or which countries they do, wish they had better samples of theirs.

So which would you recommend Little Passports or Top Secret Adventures? I'd like to use one of these as a springboard for our geography each month, but I can't decide. Any suggesions? Oh, this would be for a 9 and 4 year old. Thanks.:001_smile:

I would just start with level 4. It reviews so much each year it wouldn't be a problem. We get the teachers book w/jingle cd and the student workbook and have been very happy. :001_smile:

:thumbup:That's what I have. I love that book!

Myabe if you wanted to just go the science kit route you could look at the Young Scientists kits. My ds loved those and really retained alot from them.:001_smile:

Not long after me and dh were married we had one(bat not zombie:001_smile:)get into the house. He was getting ready for work and I'd gone out to the kitchen and this dark thing comes zooming by my head to my horror it was a huge(okay maybe not that huge but it certainly seemed like it at the time) fanged and massively clawed(well I'm assuming so because I'm pretty sure it was waiting to attack me) BAT! I yelled out for my dh "Honey, there's a bat in the house!" and waited for my knight to come slay the bat and rescue me. But instead he yells back "Why would you say something like that?"
