rjand6more
I have used every level of MM. The kids and I like it. It gets the job done. It is very independent. Very little use of manipulatives.
Miss Tick
We love math mammoth, but for manipulatives you should also look at Miquon. It uses Cuisineaire Rods pretty heavily.
Hobbes
We have used MM 1-4. Very little manipulative use built in, but I've just used quite a few with the lessons anyway. I use MUS blocks for demonstrating addition and subtraction and we worked with them quite a bit - also number lines and counting bears (especially with my younger daughter, we did a lot of pages orally - she would build with manipulatives and tell me answers while I would scribe). I use a plastic clock for the time sections, fraction manipulatives for the fraction sections, tape measures and scales for measurement stuff. I've found the program lends itself well to work with manipulatives if you would like to use them.
Kiara.I
Rightstart is high on manipulatives too. Sent from my ONEPLUS A5000 using Tapatalk
Syllieann
We’ve used all of levels 1-4 and are working through 5 now. I used Cuisenaire rods and a base ten set with level 1 and a bit for level 2. That child didn’t really need/want manipulatives past that, but I do think the program lends itself well to it. Many of the teaching boxes actually show a picture of the rods and unit cubes or hundred flats. It shows pie slices or fraction strips when teaching fractions. You can, of course, use real money instead of drawing pictures of it on the worksheet. With a different child (who didn’t mesh well with the program) I added place value cards. I like to watch the videos on education unboxed for teacher education. It allows me to present just about any concept in a hands-on way. jaredluvsjoanie
Math Mammoth is a great program. As others have stated, you are perfectly free to add any manipulatives as much or as little as you want.
Jame
We've been using MUS along with some MM this year. I love Math Mammoth and would love to use it without the MUS, but my son doesn't like all the problems. I pick and choose a lot of the problems from MM for reinforcing all that my son is learning in MUS and then assign concepts that are not taught in MUS for the Gamma level. It's working out pretty well, though I'd love to use just the MM.
