provenance61
A friend of mine just started homeschooling her 5th grade daughter. She's looking for online lessons. Her daughter prefers doing work online rather than paper and pencil worksheets. Something that will have her answer questions and fill in blanks, etc., and then let her know how she is doing. She likes Khan Academy -- but she's looking for more like that in different subject areas, particularly reading. Also -- she's going away for a short period and plans to have her daughter work online for short periods while she's away. Any suggestions? MomatHWTK
I think the scope of your question is overbroad- there are lots of choices but all have pros and cons.

provenance61
Okay, if someone can throw out some ideas, we could start a discussion of pros and cons. This is actually what I'm trying to learn about for my friend.
u2006kids
http://www.homeschoolbuyersco-op.org/home-school-curriculum/ This is a good place to start. I haev tried IXl, CTC , KHAN for math Using meritnation for reading comprehension mobimax for science and grammar But In my case online ones are mostly supplemental
MistiB
Has she looked at MobyMax? You can sign up as a homeschool and then you have the option to sign in as a teacher to access lessons and adjust sequence/assignments, check progress and grades, find weak spots that need more practice, etc. It's also free. u2006kids
MobyMax is free?...... I thought it was 99 an year
MistiB
I believe they have a paid and a free version. I'm currently signed up for the free version. Admittedly, I haven't used it for many subjects; but I have yet to find a need to upgrade to the paid version ;) Edited to add: looks like the $99/yr would be if you opted for the teacher license. Dmmetler
Homeschool Buyers Co-op has some group buys-check there if you're interested in something before paying full price. The World Education games are coming up fairly soon, and usually there is online practice available in advance using IntoScience, Spellodrome and Mathletics (and normally a good deal for subscribing for participants after the games). redsquirrel
I think MEP has an online option for some levels. The only online thing I do with my 5th grader is he takes an writing class through the Well Trained Mind Academy, but I don't think that is what you mean, is it? There is also xtra math, which is just practice and drill, not instruction
blondeviolin
Sounds like k12 might be a good option.
kolamum
What about SOS or Monarch? They aren't free though, but they would be online schooling with grades & so forth.
journey00
Easy Peasy is free. Time4learning is a good one and they have a free trial.
