EngOZ
Can you recommend any character training curriculum for my dd 5 and 8.5 year old?
Tsuga
Quite frankly, I view this as something best done hands-on, such as through Scouts or Campfire or a church/synagogue/temple group. What were you thinking of in particular?
EngOZ
Thanks - I'm just looking for something that you could do on a consistent basis i.e. like a devotional that addresses certain character attributes like kindness, sharing etc.
drjuliadc
I like the free videos on character first education's website. I also like "we chose virtues" products.
Epicurean
I'm sure you've already come across this, but The Children's Book of Virtues is the first thing to spring to mind. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/068481353X/
Heathermomster
Training Hearts, Teaching Minds by Meade is a daily devotional that teaches through the Westminster Shorter Catechism.
FloridaLisa
I really like Doorposts materials. Lisa
displace
I have a book 10 min life lessons for kids by Jamie miller. It's nice with little morality lessons. For ex, take different colored apples and see how different they are on the outside, but cut them horizontally and they look similar on the inside, and have stars in them. Stuff like that. Then you can have a study of apples!
Uff Da!
I asked about this a long time ago in this thread: http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/416127-character-education/ It took me a long time to understand content based education (because I never experienced it) and even longer to understand what in the world people meant by virtue based education (again- never really experienced it). I think the best thing you can do for character education is to teach yourself ethics, study religion (if it's your cup of tea) and so forth so that it spills over into your everyday life with your kids. Sure, you can do lessons and crafts and talk about different attributes and so forth but in the end, it is the little things every day that make a difference.
