Prairie~Phlox
I have seen IEW, just the main one, but is there anything easier? It just seems hard, maybe I'm over analyzing it. Should I give it a try or is there something else that is more straight forward?
3byzaz
I highly recommend Meaningful Composition. If you look at the thread from yesterday titles Writing, I think a few others did as well. It is very IEW-like, but more directed to the student, and much simpler to teach. We have highly enjoyed it. It seems to have all the IEW components--my son took at class in it. So, I haven't actually gone through IEW totally. It has REALLY helped my middle son's writing this year a lot. It is very step by step and in small chunks. It's also very Godly. joannqn
The Student Writing Intensives (SWI) put out by IEW teaches directly to the student. My daughter is using it with little to no input from me. She watches the DVD, does the assignments, and I look at them when she's done. So, if you like IEW but don't want the teacher portion, you can still do it. amtmcm
I agree. My daughter completed IEW SWI B on her own. I watched the first few lessons with her to make sure she had the hang of it and then she completed the rest on her own. She is currently working on IEW Elegant Essay as a follow up and it is also written to the student. We will probably do another IEW SWI-C or SICC-B. It did wonders for my daughter's writing organization skills. Ann C.
Heather in VA
If you need to have the student do it independently, then Writing Strands (written directly to the student) or IEW with the DVDs can both be done easily. Heather

There are others here who've had the same success with the Themed Writing Lessons from IEW as well. And, as others have mentioned, Meaningful Composition is a very doable program with an IEW likeness. These are both on my radar when we complete SWI.
