History odyssey or SOTW

We used SOTW for grammar stage and are using History Odyssey for logic stage, so I can't compare both programs directly for grammar stage. But, let me say that I vastly preferred SOTW, because it was wonderfully engaging. It gave ds a love for history that HO doesn't even come close to continuing.

You can read my review of both programs in this thread.

Hi Sue,

I read your link to your past post, I really appreciate your responses to this. When you say "SOTW" what does that mean you did besides the SOTW spine and extra suggested books?

Thanks!

We're using both. I use HO as my main spine (framework). We do our reading and narrations using the SOTW AG to guide things along. Since we're going through this at a young age, activities are extra important, so I choose activities from the AG as well as what HO suggests - whatever looks the most interesting. :) I only have a slight problem with the maps overlapping, but Becca loves map work so much I just let her do both sets.

We love Story of the World. We love the CDs and the map pages and the coloring pages. We have completed many of the fun activites and read along in a lot of the supplements and I have just started giving my first grader the tests. In fact, she got the Roman playmobil set for Christmas to "play" along with the history. We have added a lot of pictures to her journaling and about every three weeks we review the entries in her journal.
