lulubelle
I have been wanting a new toilet for a few years now. It’s about 20 years old. We only have 1. My husband refused. He just doesn’t want to do it. He did it 20 years ago and that was enough. I can’t do it alone and a plumber is too expensive. So, I just did the silent toilet bowl test (food coloring in the tank) after getting a very high water bill, and it failed. Now he is fixing the gasket. The bill has been high for awhile. We probably could have hired a plumber for what we literally flushed down the toilet. I’m just super frustrated, but at least more aware of spotting a leak! Pawz4me
Check with your water provider. Many of them allow a write-off for a higher than average bill once every year or two.
Katy
Unless you are disabled, you can absolutely replace a toilet yourself. Especially now that you can use a rubber floor gasket instead of a wax ring. I once did it 6 months pregnant and with an infant in the crib in the adjoining room. Not that it’s worth the fight with your husband. Watch a few on YouTube if you’re curious. ETA: DH was working a lot of hours then, it was leaking, and the plumbing company was so busy they couldn’t come for days. ScoutTN
Ugh. We had a leak that went under our floors. Check for damage and mold. We caught it fast and insurance replaced our floors, but it was a giant headache for sure!
