EmilyGF
Hi all, I'd like to add some vocabulary study for at least DS10. He likes knowing the why behind everything, so I think a roots-based vocab book would be the best. DS10 gets overwhelmed really easily, so it needs to be incremental. He also gets overwhelmed by too much writing, so, while I'd like a workbook for logistical reasons, it can't be too much writing. The words need to be hard enough that he feels like he's making progress. Did you have good success with a roots-based vocabulary program? Suggestions? Thanks, Emily
HomeAgain
My oldest used Word Roots. He liked it well enough but he used it to shore up spelling patterns. I currently have Words On The Vine in my shelf and I really like the amount of writing and variety it has. https://www.google.com/books/edition/Words_on_the_Vine_Grades_5_8/abrqBQAAQBAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&pg=PR1&printsec=frontcover You also might consider something like Rummy Roots, where you play cards to learn Latin/Greek parts.

Shoes+Ships+SealingWax
Scholastic has this simple Greek & Latin roots workbook, which my DS found enjoyable last year: Vocabulary Packets: Greek & Latin Roots https://a.co/d/8U66XNb As well as a second book focused on prefixes / suffixes: Vocabulary Packets: Prefixes & Suffixes https://a.co/d/gBpTvjB Edited October 26, 2022 by Shoes+Ships+SealingWax

scirocco
HI, this is such an interesting topic to me. I'm developing an app to teach students Latin and Greek morphemes/ word parts, the suffixes teach th parts of speech. I am looking for feedback. If you would like to help, I would appreciate any feedback you have. You can find the app here - iOS Apple store Latyn Lyngo; I'm not yet selling the app, but just asking any interested people for their feedback. It is Very clunky and I haven't figured out how to motivate a learner. Perhaps the students can give me advice. You can email me at info@latynlyngo.com to tell me what you think Thank you
scirocco
Forgot to add that it is a tumbler based game and the player drops various prefixes, roots, and suffixes to get whole words. or they can play nonsense. thanks
