madteaparty
I was looking at another one of these robots and on the regular LEGO website it says “retiring soon”. No such notation on the LEGO education website. Before I drop serious $ on this, I thought I’d check, has anyone heard anything? I know we have some FLL teams here. Thanks very much. edited to add that I did hear from LEGO confirming it’s just the retail set being retired; the LEGO education set will carry on. Thanks! ByGrace3
oh wow! I had not heard this. two of my kiddos are on FLL teams. We have a lot invested in EV3 . . . it would be disappointing for them to move on so quickly. We have already upgraded once from the NXT to EV3. cintinative
On the EV3 users group on FB it says "That is just the retail EV3 set. It appears they are still selling the education EV3 set with no plans to retire." I would check with LEGO though.
madteaparty
I emailed LEGO education but I doubt I will hear back...
MeaganS
They have a new robot kit that you can use for competitions too. I think they will likely transition to that in a few years.

It's called Spike Prime and can be used for FLL competitions instead of ev3. https://education.lego.com/en-us/products/lego-education-spike-prime-set/45678#product?ef_id=CjwKCAjwkun1BRAIEiwA2mJRWUrEyJ7JPsKJ4VtnRkUe9HfopXvic4WrN1ZG3zeXbt3kUgBbebB-9BoCWCMQAvD_BwE:G:s&s_kwcid=AL!790!3!341433731936!b!!g!!%2Bspike %2Bprime&gclid=CjwKCAjwkun1BRAIEiwA2mJRWUrEyJ7JPsKJ4VtnRkUe9HfopXvic4WrN1ZG3zeXbt3kUgBbebB-9BoCWCMQAvD_BwE
