cintinative
The U.S. National Weather Service is hosting a free training on SKYWARN. "SKYWARN® is a national network of volunteer severe weather spotters. The spotters are trained by local National Weather Service Forecast Offices on how to spot severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, hail and flooding. In some parts of the country, spotters also report snowfall and ice accumulation." "We are hosting our first-ever virtual spotter training class on Monday, April 20, at 4PM (EST). For more information and to register, visit here: https://www.weather.gov/iln/onlinespotter" Edited April 17, 2020 by cintinative

Didn't tell me anything I didn't already know, plus the presenter made a juvenile chuckle and comment when talking about mammatus clouds. Really?! He worked for our local National Weather Service. Well the email when you register says the contact is Brandon Peloquin. So I guess you can look him up and see if he seems capable of talking about weather without making crude jokes. And for that other person in the course you did, did you make a complaint to his boss or put your disgust on the feedback forms? We get a lot of interesting weather around here, so it could be fun for ds to learn how to do this. I've seen a guy in town who drives around with weather gear all over his vehicle.
PeterPan
Just to answer my own question, here's some info on the guy behind the presentation https://u.osu.edu/metclub/symposium/2016-symposium/brandon-peloquin/ Seems pretty qualified and decent and into weather. And it's saying (and I wouldn't have expected it) that their office is one of the most active in the country for dealing with severe weather, go figure.
