Kassia
I checked the expiration dates of all the hand sanitizers we have around and found one unopened pump container and another half-used large pump container of hand sanitizer that are three years past the expiration dates. I don't want to use them as sanitizers now, but is there anything else I can do with them besides just toss them?
Corraleno
I think unopened bottles are fine to use past the "expiration" date. It's not as if the alcohol goes bad or stops working, the expiration date is just based on an assumed rate of evaporation over time, and the "expiration date" is the date they expect that evaporation may cause the level of alcohol to drop below 90% of what's stated on the bottle. So the amount that has evaporated from an unopened bottle is going to be pretty small, and even then the level of alcohol will just be a bit below what's on the label. 4
