BakersDozen
My 16yod was complaining about jaw pain a few months ago. At her dentist appointment last week she was asked to open her jaw...fine. But when she closed it I could see from my chair in the corner that it literally moved back and forth in the craziest way! She no longer has pain but this definitely needs to be addressed. The dentist wants to set up a $400 appointment during which he will get an extensive medical history and more x-rays. I wonder, however, if I should bypass the dentist and go straight to a specialist (I don't need a dentist referral) and, if so, which one? The crazy thing is I just had an orthodontist consult for her jaw and he didn't test for/catch the Incredible Moving Jaw (and I wasn't in the room or I would have seen it and said something). Jaybee
I can't remember for sure, but I believe we went to an oral surgeon pretty soon for dd. I think he's the one who tried out splints first. She ended up having to have surgery because the splints wouldn't keep it in place. She continues to wear a splint several years later. Her jaw would actually lock sometimes, as well as cause considerable pain.
