lgliser
I just discovered MEMS from these forums. There's not a ton of talk about it but what there is sounds really positive. I'm pretty sure I will use book 1 of MEMS for my girls for their 6th grade year. I think we can get through a lot of it quickly, as it will be a lot of review, and hopefully be able to start book 2 next year as well. (They'll complete CLE 5th grade this year). I feel like MEMS will be really good for them. They could use the confidence boost of some familiar review, and it's supposed to just be 20 minutes a day, which is great, as CLE takes them almost an hour. I also love how there are instructional videos for each lesson online, and they're free. My plan for my son was to finish CLE 6 this year and then have him condense CLE 7/8 both next year for his 6th grade year. But now MEMS is just really appealing to me. I wonder if I should just get their pre-algebra book?

alisoncooks
For my daughter, who is using and loving Mastering Essential Math Skills this year (6th): While I like the program for getting my DD *ready* for pre-alg, I'm not ready to trust it *as* our pre-alg program. I'm sure that makes no sense, since the other books have been very successful for us, but I'm leaning toward a more complete/thorough class for next year. (My personal choices are either Chalkdust-done-cheap or Mr.D.) But I've not taught pre-alg for any child, yet, so take this with a grain of salt. ;)
mom31257
I tried to use book one of the program as a break from CLE, but it was too easy. Even when it teaches an important skill, the numbers are not very complex for the age level. I would never use this as my only, main curricula.
