athena1277
How far into GWTM do you expect your 5th grader to get this year? I don’t see us finishing it, even though we have pushed that a fairly fast pace. It just seems to be kinda hard/advanced and I’m trying to figure out when we will have covered enough to call it for the year.
El...
We're doing it. We do 2-3 lessons a week, but we school year round, next thing next, so I don't know exactly when we'll finish. It is much harder than FLL, but dd is catching on well. It's wild to see what she can understand.
cintinative
How far are you all? I got a little scared when I read the intro again and it says it ramps up at week 20. I already feel a bit out of my depth and we are on week 18. ETA: We are trying for four lessons a week, but we have had to spend two days on some lessons. blondeviolin
It really does ramp up in the middle there. I will have a fifth grader next year and he won't do it until at least sixth grade.
Trilliumlady
I have done FLL 1-4 (finishing four this year with my fourth grader). I decided to go with IEW fixit for this coming year to give her a break and then start up with GFTWTM in sixth. Sounds like I made the right choice! An eaisier year on grammar will be nice.
librarymama
Can those of you using it share about how long a lesson takes to complete? Thanks!
cintinative
Can those of you using it share about how long a lesson takes to complete? Thanks! I've never timed it, and some are definitely longer than others. I would say 30-40 minutes with the exercises.
blondeviolin
In the first few weeks, it was a good 20 minutes. My 11yo is just finishing up week 22, and the parent part of the lessons now take about 15m, including reviewing the day before and mistakes in the exercises. But my girl works on the exercises for about 30-45 min after that. I'd allot 40-60 min if you can. (This is what I'm finding in sixth grade - an hour for writing, grammar, Latin, and sci/history and then another 60-90 min for the other little things to do: spelling/vocab, math, piano, reading - which she also does in the evening for pleasure.)
