gardenmom5
ok - I know it's a short term fix, but I went to task manager and closed the screen reader. I do not turn the thing on (though there are times It might prove useful.) but it will accidently get turned on. I hate it!
gardenmom5
Go into settings --> Cortana and turn everything off that was the first thing I tried - there are NO switches to be able to turn anything off. apparently -the anniversary update took them away. I even found the swtich for "turn off cortana while sleeping" - it would NOT allow me to click on it. have cortana respond only to me - it would NOT allow me to click on it. Arcadia
It seems to be a known anniversary update issue From ZDNet “In the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, version 1607, Microsoft removed Cortana's on-off switch. But it's still there, if you know where to look. Use this tweak to make Windows search strictly local.†http://www.zdnet.com/article/windows-10-tip-turn-off-cortana-completely/

eagleynne
I am so sick of Windows 10's constant updates and the resultant changes to my computer settings, I am thisclose to switching to an iMac. Before you switch to apple you should know that I've had a "Upgrade to macOS High Sierra" bubble in the upper right hand corner of my desktop for a couple of weeks now. I can make it go away, but it comes back in no time.
