JennyD
My youngest will be finished with BA 2A soon and 2B isn't supposed to come out until Feb 2018. We had this same issue with my oldest and the production schedule for BA 3 and 4, way back when, and we went back and forth between BA, Singapore, and Zaccaro until he was able to start AoPS PreAlgebra. Middle went from Singapore 2B into BA 3A. But what to do between BA 2A and 3A? I guess we can go back to Singapore, again, but I'm not feeling the love. Partly it's just the comparison with BA/AoPS, but it's also that the BA approach is just so perfect for DS7. Any other ideas? sweetpea3829
Mmmm....I'm thinking stick with Singapore until the next Beast book comes out. At least, once you get to 3rd, you won't have to wait....and wait.....and wait...this time around.
JennyD
That is true. It's been so nice for middle DS, who went straight from Singapore 2B to Beast 3A and can just continue on the BA/AoPS Happy Train of Math through calculus.
Jackie
We were in a weird in-between spot with math for a while with DD. We did through multi-digit subtraction in RightStart, plus a smattering of other topics of interest, then we just played with math for a while to reinforce number sense before moving directly into 3A. If BA’s style is perfect, you could try going to 3A, with some supplementation to fill gaps as needed. And even though DD is now in 4A, we’re going to get 2 as it comes out to have a break and reinforce that early work.
nixpix5
We are in the same boat here. DS does RS along with BA 2A right now and he has burned through 2A like nobody's business. Now it looks like we will have to bounce into SM 2 until February. They cover different enough stuff that I feel ok about it but DS doesn't like it nearly as much as BA. He is only 6 so I thought BA 3 was just too far ahead for him. We love BA so much though. Good stuff!

This is a good idea. We are away from home for the semester so unfortunately I don't have the books here with me, but I've been through 3A with two kids so I should just find the table of contents online and try to recall what it covers. (I vaguely remember those toothpick puzzles?) DS also did some Miquon last year and really liked it, but of course I didn't bring those books with me, either. letsplaymath
Maybe try something completely different? I've become fascinated with using Cuisenaire rods to teach algebraic reasoning from the very beginning. Take a look at this blog post Algebra Before Arithmetic, and if it looks interesting, click the "Gattegno Textbook 1" link in the sidebar and scroll back to the beginning. Or explore some of the many non-textbooky math treasures available online.
LMD
Miquon or MEP.
JennyD
Thanks for all the suggestions. Letsplaymath, your website is amazing! I thought we had a lot of math books already but there are quite a few on that list that I haven't seen, so I will be going through your list much more carefully. And I totally forgot about MEP. Great idea.
