3 ladybugs
Is this just an american thing or do other countries culture generally do this too? It seems like so often you will see houses in other countries with just white walls. Seems so boring to me! Just trying to learn more about different cultures! :D
Moonhawk
My house is a Skittles house. Peacock blue in the kitchen, Bright yellow green in the family room, bright orange in the the office, etc. I think my love of BRIGHT walls comes from my Mexican side. I think. No one else in my family has done this, though. Or in my neighborhood. But it matches the talavera vase colors, so it must be the Mexican side of me. And the houses I've been in across the border can be colorful, too. Though, I use white curtains on my bright walls, so maybe not. I'm not too much help then, sorry. Wallpaper seems to be an international thing, from my various research on decor, sourced on television.
maize
Colors are certainly popular in many parts of Latin America. Less so in the European countries I have spent the most time in, mostly North western Europe. I think Spain tended more towards color. I don't remember a lot of colored walls in Japan, natural tones and white were most popular.
happypamama
I hate wallpaper but love pretty, albeit not super bright, colors in my house. It's an old (almost 200 years) house, so we do try to keep that in mind; a very modern color palette wouldn't fit right with it. My hallways, sewing room, office, and 3/4 of my schoolroom are a warm cream. I can't remember the exact name, but it's something like this one, Gold Coast White: https://www.glidden.com/colors/yellow-gold/gold-coast-whiteThe other 1/4 of my schoolroom is French Country Blue: https://www.glidden.com/colors/violet-indigo/french-country-blue That looks brighter than it is. In reality, it's a light slate blue with more blue than grey, a hint of periwinkle. The trim in the schoolroom is the blue on the cream walls and the cream on the blue one. I love it! My kitchen is the sweetest, sunniest, happiest yellow, Sunbeam: https://www.glidden.com/colors/yellow-gold/sunbeam I love how it looks with bright white trim, and we will be adding white cabinets and red oak flooring. It makes me smile every time I enter it. DH and I went back and forth about bathroom colors. I wanted something bright, but he was afraid it would be too dark. I broached this one, Atlantis Blue: https://www.glidden.com/colors/blue-teal/atlantis-blue He initially thought it would be too much, but I said I thought it would be perfect, bright but not overpowering. He's since agreed that it was a good choice. (It's paired with tan tile and rugs, greyish-tan vanity and cabinet, bright white trim, and towels in yellow like the Sunbeam paint and a light green. It evokes beach memories while still having a timeless sort of feel.) We're remodeling another room, and I'm lobbying hard for getting one of these shades in there somehow. If not on the walls, I'd love to see them in some of the built-in cabinetry that he's planning. Marine Blue: https://www.glidden.com/colors/blue-teal/marine-blue Hawaiian Teal: https://www.glidden.com/colors/blue-teal/hawaiian-teal Pacific Turquoise: https://www.glidden.com/colors/blue-teal/pacific-turquoise Kingfisher Blue: https://www.glidden.com/colors/blue-teal/kingfisher-blue He wants to try a milk paint on the cabinetry for a more authentic historic look.
Guest
I like different colors but not too much contrast in intensity. And I’m branching out from neutrals into colors...but if you put all the colors into a peaceful painting—seashore withfog—it would work. Barb_
We just painted our rebuild and my theme is "colors of gray." Out here a lot of people use southwestern golds and bricks and tans and I've gotten a little tired of it. My main color is BM Pebble Beach. I'm so glad I ran across it online because it looks NOTHING like this on the paint strip. https://kellybernierdesigns.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/coventry-gray-1-300x300.jpg The family room kitchen and the master bedroom are SW passive gray https://i.pinimg.com/originals/53/aa/b0/53aab08c7ae53de285dbfd359687d257.jpg The upstairs bathroom is BM healing Aloe: https://www.remodelaholic.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Paint-Color-Spotlight-Healing-Aloe-Benjamin-Moore.jpg Son's room is BM revere pewter: http://reverepewter.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Sherwin-Williams-Revere-Pewter.jpg My bathroom is a grayed out purple similar to this: http://www2.benjaminmoore.com/ShowPropertyServlet?nodePath=/BEA%20Repository/imagerepository/article_images_new/Interior/Bathroom/IA_int_purple_bathroom//zoom_image.content_en_US I love the colors because they're all so soothing an play nicely with wood floors and the sort of coastal California meets midwestern shaker-craftsman thing I'm trying to make work

I love lots of colors when I stay in a hotel or something, or when I visit someone else's home. I find it vibrant and exciting and attractive. My own color palette used to be more intensely colored. I loved it for a while but I grew tired of it after a few years. Now I'm all about the soothing colors that gradually change from room to room like changing weather
