Ethel Mertz
Does anyone have a subscription for streaming Great Courses? If so, was it worth the money? How did you use it?
emzhengjiu
We do, but I use it for self-education primarily. For my 17 yo, I pick specific lectures because she doesn't like the format. It's been helpful explaining some math concepts. She's also completed a lecture series on different cultures around the world. This summer, we're working through Listening and Understanding Great Music. It is a lecture format. Works wonderfully well for me, but not so well for my daughter. I was one of the beta testers and will be renewing this fall. So far, I don't think they've added a course I wouldn't enjoy. Edited to add I believe there's still a free trial period available. Ethel Mertz
Thanks! I'm thinking of using it to supplement Medieval History and Literature and maybe Environmental Science.
CadenceSophia
I have the free trial right now, but I don't think I'll keep it. I guess I have gotten spoiled by modern Crash Course type format. It just seems to take forever to get information out of great courses lectures. It's a one month trial though, you should definitely give it a shot and see if it suits.
Vida Winter
My whole family is using our subscription and we love it. Well worth the price.
MountainViewHS
We love ours. Use it 3-4 x week. So far we have completed 4 courses this way.
fourisenough
We have the free trial month currently. My daughter is watching an art history and a music appreciation course. I'll let her decide at the end of the trial whether to keep the subscription. I think you would need to use at least 3-4 courses over a year to justify the expense (at least, according to my value system). I can see it being very useful if you have more than one HS student+ using it.

Ethel Mertz
Where's Toto: Excellent selections! Last year I borrowed "How to be a SuperStar Student" from our local library. DS really liked it. Our current library has lots of the Great Courses. However, the library system in the town we're moving to doesn't have much.
