HomeAgain
I just had to write a strongly worded "no thank you" letter to our school district. We require approval here for our education plan. It's pretty straightforward, actually. But then the school district came back requesting that I register my child at their school as a homeschooler and even when pressed on the fact that it's not a legal request, still insisted. So I had to be firm. I really don't like starting out on a bad note, but honestly! If they would just stick to what they're supposed to legally do I wouldn't have to remind them of their role in our school!
displace
I wonder why they'd want to have you register? We have to register with the county (they keep track of the requirements for homeschooling), but the school only knows us if we're students. It's frustrating when people don't know what to do. I'd just assume they don't really know so they're just saying stuff, and then ignore it. it makes me wonder if there's a financial reason. HomeAgain
They said it was district protocol. Which fine, great, but not doing it. I did wonder about the financial reasoning, too. It's a rather affluent district, though, so they definitely get enough funding per kid attending.
MommyLiberty5013
Could it be for insurance? Needing to know the number of kids? But I guess that only makes sense if your DC physically enters that building for classes or activities.
Valley Girl
They said it was district protocol. Which fine, great, but not doing it. I did wonder about the financial reasoning, too. It's a rather affluent district, though, so they definitely get enough funding per kid attending. That may be. But since you reminded them that "homeschool protocol" is to not do things that are not legally required, hopefully they will update their policies. I'd be really irritated, too, with their insistence about it since you said their request is not legal. Let us know if you hear from them again. HomeAgain
I reminded them of the law, how it is interpreted, and what it means in layman terms when it comes to their role in our private school. Also told them that it sets a legal precedence that affects future homeschoolers and I am not willing to put myself in that position. Then finished with a "all future requests will be sent to -legal representative- and they will draft a reply on my behalf". I think it will be unlikely that I do hear back, other than an approval letter. I just didn't want to have to write the letter in the first place. If I honestly wanted to skirt the system I wouldn't be asking for an approval letter in the first place.
