bibsandmegs
We've been using TPS for English, and I've been very pleased. However, they are giving me grief about potentially skipping English 1 for my DD who's been doing all 8th grade level work this year (she'll be 12 in April). She's been ahead for several years. Consequently, I'm looking at other options. Has anyone used HSLDA Online Academy? Their English courses look enticing. I'd love to hear anyone's experience. Thank you so much for your thoughts! Omma
My ds has been taking their English 2 (World Lit.) this year and I really love it. He is doing well. It's plenty challenging with a wide variety of assignments each week, all extremely well-organized! It is quite simple for me to go in and check grades and view written work he has completed, and I feel his writing has improved tremendously over the course of the year. Plus I love how assignments that he would have balked at if I had given them, he does with barely a sigh or an occasional moan! :) It is easy to view the point system of each assignment (ie vocab. tests worth 10 pts., grammar quizzes 15 pts., papers/tests may be 20 pts. or even 100 pts.) and a bad grade here or there is easily absorbed in the plethora of other graded assignments. Plus there is a participation grade which can be docked slightly if there is 'excessive chatting' about unrelated topics. The live class meets for 1 1/2 hours once a week with all assignments due by midnight on Saturday. Next year, my ds wants to do their AP Lg. & Comp., plus whatever other classes he can do with them (he enjoys it so much)! Hope this helps, Brenda
bibsandmegs
Brenda, Thank you so much! This is very helpful. Do you know how many students are in your DS's class? Thank you again! Lisa
Omma
Brenda, Thank you so much! This is very helpful. Do you know how many students are in your DS's class? Thank you again! Lisa The VERY unofficial response from my ds on this question is: '9 to 14' (lol). My guess is that the max is 15, but I don't really know. bibsandmegs
Thank you so much for the info! It is very helpful. By the way, do they stick to the syllabus/books fairly well? We've had a few classes where they say they're going to read something, but never do. Thanks again! I'll admit, I'm surprised more people on this board don't use them. Don't know if I should read anything into that or not.
Ellie
I'll admit, I'm surprised more people on this board don't use them. Don't know if I should read anything into that or not. It's fairly new, so I wouldn't read too much into the fact that people here don't use it much. :-)

In English 2, they also add a lot of various articles to print and respond to throughout the year. And yes, they are fairly new. Stay tuned to the 2/28 opening day for early registration as I hear they will also be adding in new classes for the 2017-18 year that should be posted by then. yvonne
How does the Master Teacher/Classroom Teacher set up work? Is the Master Teacher just a sort of supervisor of the classroom teacher?
