Cricket
what does "a New York minute" mean? Is it a long time or a short time?
Mom2legomaniacs
I think it means something happens very quickly so as to be in a short time.
Guest Virginia Dawn
Hmm, interesting question. It could go either way. Maybe New York minutes are too quick to catch your breath, or maybe they seem to take forever cause they are so stubbornly slow. :-)
3lilreds in NC
I think it means a quick minute because New York is generally considered a faster-paced place to be. Not a stupid question though. Have you been listening to Don Henley? :)
Remudamom
In a New York minute everything can change, In a New York minute things can get a little strange....... In this world, darkness comes early, People rush home to the ones they love. You better take a fool's advice and take care of your own, The wolf is always at the door. 3lilreds in NC
Remudamom - you forgot the oo OO oos! :D And in these days When darkness falls early And people rush home To the ones they love You better take a fools advice And take care of your own One day they're here; Next day they're gone I do love Don Henley! I saw him in concert at Pine Knob in Michigan after I graduated from college. He sang "It's Not Easy Being Green" and dedicated it to Al Gore. I've seen the Eagles a couple of times too. Crissy
From OUP: in a New York minute: 1 in a short period of time; very quickly: Everything can change in a New York minute. 2 used to emphasize that you would definitely do sth if you had the chance: I loved the hotel and would stay there again in a New York minute!(This may refer to the idea that everything and everybody moves quickly in New York.) tricia
I am told it is the city that never sleeps. Don't know if that's why they call it a New York Minute though.:bigear:
