Van1998 Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 I was looking around for free courses in fairly basic English grammar, and I came across this site: https://alison.com/ I looked around and it seems to offer courses in a wide range of subjects, including English. I'm always a little skeptical of sites that offer something like this for free, and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this site, and if it's worth my time and effort? 1 Quote
Lanny Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 I don't know anything about Alison.com but I suggest that you take a look at Canvas.Net I am interested in taking some free MOOC courses from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and they use Canvas.Net If ERAU offers those courses again, I will sign up on Canvas.Net Quote
Shred Betty Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 Hi Van, sorry I don't know the website. If I were you thought I'd repost again, including the website name in the thread title as that way people who recognize it will know without having to click through and more likely to respond. 1 Quote
cbollin Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 Van, I haven't used a course on that site. But my local library does list it as an online resource for self study. I don't know the quality. They are designed for self study. There are other similar kinds of sites out there. If you do repost or edit subject line, you might want to ask about MOOC options and what they are about. Some popular ones include coursera, edX, saylor.org. Many people will audit the courses instead of paying for a certificate. If I understand correctly the certificates will be for people in workforce who need to prove they took a course for continuing study. I'm not sure how it works in your situation for self study to learn and get ready for college some day soon. Quote
