With all the instapot talk, I was thinking of putting a batch of grillades in the pressure cooker. Then my mind wandered to the grits, and I've used the rice cooker for rice, quinoa, couscous...so I wondered if it would do grits. Now I'm also wondering about oatmeal!

You're right, grits are easy on the stove, but the rice cooker is totally hands-free.

Yes, I often cook grits/polenta in my rice cooker.  I use the "porridge" setting and a 1:4 ratio of grits to water.  If I have time, I'll run through the cooking process twice (adding a bit more water the second time) but they come out very nicely cooked either way.

I also use the rice cooker to make overnight steel-cut oatmeal at least three times a week.  Again, I use a 1:4 ratio of oats to water and the porridge setting.  I put them in the night before and just set the timer for breakfast time.

You also have to remember to stir them, and sometimes I can't even.

I don't have different settings on my rice cook,  so I googled, and it looks like the standard setting is fine, same 1:4 ratio.
