ProudGrandma
My husband (a Pastor) went to visit a lady from our church today. He brought home a homemade jar of jelly. It wasn't sealed, but it looks and smells ok. It would be moldy if it was bad, right? What do you think? I know this lady and I know she isn't negligent, so I am not sure what to think. What would you do...or think??
Guest
Not eat it and lie through my smile about how good it was! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
LucyStoner
Put in the refrigerator and enjoy. I can't believe she would have given him an something that had gone bad and jelly can sit out for a fair bit before it needs to be refrigerated due to the sugar and acid content. trulycrabby
If it's not sealed, then no I wouldn't eat it, but I would like to hear from people who have experience with homemade canned items. I do not, so the knee-jerk reaction is nope.
LucyStoner
Some people make preserves and don't process them for shelf stable storage...they freeze or refrigerate them and consume the stuff now frozen in a reasonable length of time. Fresh jams and jelly have a nicer flavor to me anyways. I'm betting these are freezerves or refrigerator jars.
MEmama
If you trust her sensibilities then yes, I would eat it. Unless it was marked summer 2010 or some such. ;) Edited May 27, 2016 by MEmama
ThisIsTheDay
It would skeeve me out a bit. I'm not sure I could eat it. (But I voted yes on the mussels and egg/cookies threads.)
