Charities for children

DS asked for his birthday to donate his present money to a charity that helps children - especially ones around his age-14- that aren't getting to be kids- forced to work, not allowed to be educated, etc.

I'd like to find one that he can participate in by learning, writing, having a pen pal, etc. it would be a great learning experience for all of us. I do like to keep my head in the sand with these things, they are so sad to me.

Any tips on groups or charities that might fit this bill?
