1MoreThought
My daughters, 5.5 and 7, are adopted from China and I want to spend extra time on Ancient Chinese history when we come to those segments of Story of the World-1. (We hit the first one in just a few weeks.) What are your favorite resources for learning about Ancient China? Books, activity books, crafts, kits ... whatever you like, I'm interested. I envision doing a lot of this over the years. Thank you so much! Jeanette 1MoreThought on our homeschool adventure ...
Laura Corin
You might like to look at my Amazon list. Some of the books slated for slightly older children might be good read alouds for yours: the Mulan book, for example, and some of the other books of myths. Chris in VA
There's a cool paper craft site that lets you make famous architectural buildings--I know they have the Great Wall of China, b/c dd has been wanting me to do it with her for a month now! The Ancient China Treasure Box is pretty good, too.
1MoreThought
Thanks, Laura in China! I was hoping to hear from you. Love reading about your time in China. Which books from your great list on Amazon would you recommend owning vs. borrowing from the library? The girls read fairly well now, but I'm also thinking ahead. HollyDay
We did several. Our friends were adopting from China at the time so it was very interesting to my dc. I used the MOH reading list off their resources list as well as the SOTW resources list. I added some general books I found at BAM and BN. Alessandra
laura & chris I just wanted to say thanks. We'll be studying China later this year, and those are great resources!
eve
I used "Ancient China: To the Great Wall of China and Beyond". This is a unit study. I just use the portion for the time period we are studying that year along with the resources they suggest or applicable subtitutes.
1MoreThought
Eve, that one sounds really promising and unlike anything I already own (Ancient China: To the Great Wall and Beyond.) We have quite a few picture books, coloring books, etc. but I'd like to bump it up a notch with activities and a chronological look at ancient history that goes a little more indepth. I do like Trivium Academy's idea of using more literature for history at this age. (My daughters are 5 and 7.) That was recently mentioned in another thread. I'll dig deeper there, too. I really appreciate everyone's ideas! Jeanette 1MoreThought on our homeschool adventure ... Edited October 8, 2008 by 1MoreThought
