Ethel Mertz
I just went ahead and bought a collegiate dictionary and, while I was at it, a thesaurus.
Kiara.I
My mom (an English teacher) would make up dictionary tests to use to assess dictionaries. A couple of the criteria I remember: -uses IPA for pronunciation guides. -can define the word "toque" adequately. It is /shocking/ how many dictionaries do not know that it is a knit cap for winter wear. You could probably find lists online of dictionary assessment guidelines. Starr
We have all kinds of dictionaries around here but by middle school they generally used whatever was on the computer. As a side funny. I bought their first dictionaries in Canada, caused a few spelling problems. :D
