chocolate-chip chooky
Hi everyone. My daughter has expressed a desire to learn more about Archimedes, so I'm looking for suitable resources. Any suggestions for books, documentaries and hands-on investigations/projects would be much appreciated. Many thanks!
Carol in Cal. 4Kiddos
We just did this a few months ago since Beast Academy 3C had a section on this and he wanted more. This website was helpful: http://www.juliantrubin.com/bigten/archimedesprinciple.html I also have the book "Famous Experiments and How to Repeat them" by Filson We also used Archimedes and the Door to Science linked above. Miss Tick
Just, if you do Archimedes and the Door to Science, could you please edit on the fly that gravity does not "pull harder on heavier things" but rather heavier things have more mass for gravity to act on. We read the book recently and that one part rubbed me the wrong way. Other than that it was an enjoyable book and many of the chapters could easily spin off into little focused studies of their own.

Kerileanne99
I just taught a coop class about Archimedes to a mixed class of 6-11 year olds. One of the fun projects we did was to build an Archimedes screw that would pick up cereal bits. I think maybe EndofOrdinary recommended it? Regardless, it was fun! There are YouTube videos with irrigation versions, as well as instructables for the cereal version made with common household items:)
chocolate-chip chooky
Ooh, yes. I've seen those Archimedes screws mentioned before and it's definitely on our to-do list. Any suggestions for best materials?
4Kiddos
I forgot to mention BA 3C has an Archimedes project on volume displacement.
