A home for their hearts
I remember a few years ago someone mentioning some early/beginning readers that were really beautiful. They were rather expensive as well. I can't for the life of me remember what they were called or the name of the company. Can you all post some links if you have any idea what I may be talking about! ;)
FloridaLisa
The Elson readers? Or the Veritas Press primers? We used the VP primers and were very happy with them.
AimeeM
The Elson readers? Or the Veritas Press primers? We used the VP primers and were very happy with them. Does VP sell the primers separate from their phonics program? I can't find them on the site.
A home for their hearts
It wasn't either of those, but thanks. The Elson readers? Or the Veritas Press primers? We used the VP primers and were very happy with them.
Monica_in_Switzerland
I think all of Arnold Lobel's books are beautifully illustrated. They are not readers like McGuffey's, per se, but they are graded at 1-2nd grade level and are the perfect first "real" books. Frog and Toad (several titles), Owl at Home, Mouse Tales, Mouse Soup, Grasshopper on the Road, Uncle Elephant.. Great books, beautiful illustrations. FloridaLisa
Does VP sell the primers separate from their phonics program? I can't find them on the site. I don't know. I bought them years ago from a small school supply store in our town that had started stocking them. You might call VP and see though. Kareni
I remember a few years ago someone mentioning some early/beginning readers that were really beautiful. They were rather expensive as well. Might it be a Waldorf book? You can see some readers here and here. Regards, Kareni

They are from Flyleaf Publising Books to Remember. http://flyleafpublishing.com/products.html I do have the first level of AAR, and they are beautiful as well, and a lot less expensive!

Eagle
After reading this thread and looking up various early readers I ended up purchasing the Usborne very first readers set (http://www.amazon.com/Usborne-First-Reading-Books-Collection/dp/B00593XQ9U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1452994653&sr=8-2&keywords=usborne+very+first+reading+set). It wasn't mentioned in the thread, but it may be of interest to others who check out this topic. I like that there is parent text and child text, with the amount of parent text diminishing with each book. By doing that they are able to make more of a story to follow while still keeping the child's words at the appropriate level of difficulty.
