Bluegoat
My daughter's guitar has suddenly stopped staying in tune. Some of the strings were in need of being replaced, they were nylon and were all stretchy, so we replaced them all, and the guy at the music store did it so I am pretty sure it was done correctly. That was Saturday. It stll won't stay in tune long though. I don't think its been banged around or anything, and there is no obvious damage. It's not an expensive guitar, it belongs to a seven year old, but up until now its stayed in tune really well for what it is. I am hoping I don't need to get a new one. Guest
Hope it is this: the tuning pegs are loose. These can be tightened up or replaced. Hope it isn't any of these: The bridge is coming loose. The neck is bowing. If you have to buy a new guitar, do not be afraid of buying used and/or online. We have had great success getting very good instruments this way, and it has saved a bucketload of money.
Bluegoat
Ok, I will look at these possibilities. Thanks! I guess Christmas is coming up, so if we have to get a new guitar, it could be a gift.
Jen in NY
Sometimes new nylon strings need to be stretched a little and tuned a few times before they start behaving... Maybe that?
NicksMama-Zack's Mama Too
Sometimes new nylon strings need to be stretched a little and tuned a few times before they start behaving... Maybe that? That's basically what my guitarist son says. They should be fine in a few days.

EKS
When you change the strings out it takes a while for them to come to equilibrium. Things should get better soon.
Guest
Interesting about the nylon strings. I am new to that world. So, now that I have learned something today, I think I will go to bed. :0)
ringwoodgal
When my daughter changes the strings on her classical guitar, she needs to retune every five minutes for a few days. It takes about a week before the intervals between tunings get back to normal.
