Princess Ariel
Is it supposed to remain pink after cooking it? Dh bought some ground beef and after cooking it for a while and checking the thermometer in the hamburger, it was still really pink throughout. Is this normal? Tess in the Burbs
um, no. We buy grass fed beef. Had it fresh, tried multiple brands/local. If we cook it well, it loses the pink. I make meatballs and never had to cook longer for pinkness. Was it super cold when you started cooking it? Maybe just cook a little longer. :-)
Squawky Acres
No. It should behave like other beef, except that it can be a lot more lean -- so I find I generally do not need to drain it if I am making taco meat. Roasts may need a longer, lower cooking time with more moisture. I have not noticed hamburgers behaving strangely. You may have just made the patties thicker than usual, or maybe it was very cold when you started.
Mergath
The hamburger we've bought in the past is grass-fed. I didn't notice it looking any more pink than "regular" hamburger, though I tend to go by temperature and not color anyway. Ground beef can still be pink inside as long as it gets to a safe temperature.
Laura Corin
Looking at it from the other point of view: so long as the meat has reached a safe temperature, I would recommend not overcooking grass-fed beef: it can get tough if cooked too long, I find, because it is more muscular and lean.
Princess Ariel
Thanks. I ended up not eating it as it didn't really taste very good. It was also quite greasy in the pan, said it was 85% fat. I won't try this particular brand again. Appreciate the responses!

Princess Ariel
Sorry, I goofed! It was 85/15. Good grief, I am really slipping!
