AngieW in Texas
Does anybody have suggestions for high school level astronomy? Must be secular. I'd prefer one that is geared towards honors level. Math prerequisite should be no higher than Algebra II.

DebbS
Well I have no idea why that post didn't work. I actually had 2 links and some explanitory text there too. The course is called Astronomy and Astrophysics. It is written by a person who has a Phd and is a professional in that field.
AngieW in Texas
I was able to get to the link. It looks like it could be a good resource. I was worried when I saw that there was a bible supplement, but it's possible that this could still work for me.
Jilly
Perhaps this course at edX?
lisabees
Angie, my son used this Great Courses one. He loved Alex Filippenko. We added readings and other supplements. It was a few years ago, so I forget! I am not sure if it would be an honors Astronomy Course, though.
DebbS
The bible supplement is just that. If you want the course to be secular, don't use the supplement. She intentionallyy wrote it that way so that you have a choice.
goldberry
http://www.castaliahouse.com/downloads/category/homeschool/ DD is pretty advanced in astronomy but needs more work on the math part. Does this course go into the math in a fairly detailed way? (Different formulas and how they apply to certain principles, etc.)
DebbS
I have looked into the course and am considering it, but I don't have it yet. It says that you need Algebra, Geometry and some Trig. as prerequisites but it also says that you can adjust the course for the younger student down to about age 13. Most 13 year olds haven't learned trig. If your daughter is really interested in Astronomy, it might be a great way to introduce her to new math concepts. As a plus, the author is a female astro-physicist. When I was a highschool student, I did not perform well in math class but learned trigonometry in physics and strengthened my algebra in chemistry. I could understand the math in the context of science but not really in the context of a math book. I learned trig in 11th grade and didn't cover it in math class until 12th. Just something to consider.
EKS
We used the Teaching Company course Understanding the Universe coupled with the text by the same guy called The Cosmos: Astronomy in the New Millennium. It ended up being a good course, though I couldn't tell you if it was honors level or not.
