Early modern textbook reccommendations?

Recommended Posts

For the past two years we've used a Houghton Mifflin textbook to supplement History Odyssey. However, the series seems to end at the end of the Renaissance, so now we have to branch out. Boo! :(

Are there any secular world history textbooks you've been happy with?

Is Human Odyssey a textbook or more story like? I can't tell from Amazon reviews. Is there anywhere I can see sample pages?

Sample pages on CBD's website:

It is a textbook but reads more like a narrative. The pages have a clean layout with plenty of white space, not a ton of distracting sidebars, etc.

Don't let the list price scare you . . . you should be able to find it easily on the used market online for much less.

Thank you!

I looked all the suggested options and concluded that what I really want doesn't exist. Instead, I've decided to drop HO and instead heavily supplement a high school World History text, combining Early Modern and Modern into one year. That way for 8th we can do Big History Project without worrying about making it fit neatly in a transcript.

Thanks again for your help! :)
