Danestress
He is a violinist and reads music rather well. I own a piano which I play badly despite years and years of lessons. Is there a book or course that would work well for us?
MotherMayI
but it does have progressive levels...http://www.pianimals.com/. We really like it:).
sagira
The Alfred's Course is a good one. You may be able to skip levels as your ds knows music notes already.
jonnia
I'm using Alfred's now to teach my 6 yr old. So far, I'm very pleased with it!
klmama
Piano Adventures by Faber and Faber. If you do a search, there was a discussion about it within the last week or so.
Another Lynn
I don't have any book recommendations, but just want to cheer you on. I've been trying to teach my oldest myself and we haven't been very consistent. (In my defense, a sick pregnancy kept us from it most of last school year). I'm determined to try again. (I'm actually using the same books I learned with 30 years ago - it's a series called Piano Student - I don't even know if it's still printed). Anyway.... why is it that I can keep myself accountable with home-schooling, but not home-piano lessons? (maybe because chess is his priority for extra-curricular?) Let me know if you have tips for making sure the lessons get done! I could use some! (Maybe just knowing others are doing it will be an encouragement to us!) Wish you the best! Lux Et Veritas Academy
I am doing the same with Alfred- It is a great series that I learned on myself
mktkcb
I heartily second Fabers Piano Adventures. It is very well done, and easy to use. Make sure you get all 4 of the components (lesson, theory, technique, and performance). They all mesh together, and make for a more well rounded experience. Faber is great.
