ereks mom
I just found an unopened canister of organic steel-cut oats in my pantry, and the bottom of the can says <gulp> BEST BEFORE JULY 20, 2011. The label says, "Store in a cool, dry place." The canister is a typical cardboard canister with an aluminum bottom and sealed with a foil seal. It is still sealed and has been stored in my pantry all this time. Are the contents still any good???
Okra
Well, I don't think they would hurt you if you ate them. But, they may not taste as good. Personally, if it was me, I would just toss and buy some new.
chocolatechip
I'd taste them. If they don't taste terrible I'd use them.
zoobie
Open and smell/taste if they've gone rancid.

Anne in CA
If they haven't gone rancid they should be fine, but they won't taste as good as fresh.
ereks mom
Thanks, everyone! I opened them and they don't taste fresh, so I'm tossing them. :-/
