Heather in WI
"What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?" This was the question asked in a video that my oldest son and I just re-watched this weekend. We watched it a couple of years ago, but I went searching for it after one of my son's college friends posted a long poem on FB about being miserable & feeling trapped in life. This whole experience has made me question & make sure that I'm not pressing *my* dreams on the boys. That on top of watching two other kids kids we know that are at the launching age, but have no idea/dream/vision of anything they want to do -- not college, not working .... nothing. I think it's so sad to be at this magical age where your entire life is ahead of you without any idea of anything to do. (There are no disabilities or medical issues with these students.) After watching the video, we had a fun time with the question -- "What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?" I came away from it with a clearer direction of what my older two boys' dreams are. They are both high goals, but do-able with hard work. It was fun to say, "Yes! We will help you get there!" Anywho ... I thought there might be others here who are interested, too. :-)
Momto6inIN
Thanks for sharing this ... I'm going to use it as our "around the supper table discussion question" tonight! :)
RootAnn
Before I read your post, my answer was, "FLY!" Think Drew Barrymore in Ever After. "You swim alone, climb rocks, rescue servants. Is there anything you don't do?" (7:03) Coincidentally, I just had a very similar conversation with a friend about kids who go off to college with absolutely no idea what they want to do and continue that way until dropping out with debt or graduating with a degree they don't care about & end up working in a low pay, no fun job. Thanks for the post.
