TyraTooters
I've got a chance to buy the MUS manipulatives (locally) so I was just wondering if CLE used the c-rods at all. Or if they'd be helpful to have even if the curriculum doesn't exactly call for them. Is be using second grade CLE.
alisoncooks
No, they don't. The main materials I've used are counters (unifix cubes, counting chips) and place value blocks. There is no work with the c-rods.
Farrar
As far as I know, the only full program that has the C-rods integrated into it is Miquon. There are other resources, such as Mathematics Made Meaningful, that help you use the rods. Of course now that there's Education Unboxed, I think that's a format most parents will find superior and it's free to boot. If you find a program that you like but also want to use the rods, you can, of course, do that. Just maybe schedule a routine "rod time" once or twice a week and use the activities at Education Unboxed to find whatever topic you're working on in your math program and have your child play around with them. mohini
CLE doesn't but I use MUS blocks with CLE very successfully. Whenever my kids have a problem I tell them "go get the blocks." and we work it out with the MUS blocks.
Ewe Mama
We have used CLE levels 100-703 (so far) and have never found a reason to pull out the C rods for it.
AimeeM
I'm using CLE 1 right now and while CLE itself doesn't *use* c-rods, I've pulled them out several times, especially now that we're getting into place value.
boscopup
I always make manipulatives available for CLE, even though they don't mention their use. There might sometimes be some teaching with objects as counters in the TM, but I don't teach from the TM.
Samiam
Nothing mentioned by CLE, but as others have said, we use MUS blocks if needed. Recently sold those, so sometimes we use Legos !
