Cat Stories

My 8yo loves the James Herriot collection. I think it's called Cat Stories.

James Herriott's first books were autobiographical, about his life as a veterinarian.  Many of his tales were so delightful and were also suitable for kids so he started putting selections out as kids' books.  Do look for these wonderful tales, but don't get confused if you see what look like adults' books first.  He wrote both.

You know how "Dog Stories" are practically a whole genre in movies and books, (think Lassie, Shiloh, The Incredible Journey, Where the Red Fern grows, etc.), well, are there any "Cat Stories"?

Skippy John Jones

Bad Kitty

Pete the Cat

DD10 tells me she has a book, Otis (she thinks), about a cat

The incredible Journey, to me, was as much a cat book as a dog book

There are several murder mystery series (meant for adults, mostly) that feature cats now.  One is The Cat Who... series.

The Born Free books were about lions -- cat enough to be considered?

If you look around I'm sure you will find many more examples of feline-featured literature.

Thomasina: the Cat who thought she was God (Paul Gallico) - this one could go in a list of classics actually - there is a Disney film based on this book.

Jennie (also by Paul Gallico) is about a boy who is transformed into a cat

The Tale of Tom Kitten (Beatrix Potter)

The Mog books (Judith Kerr)

The cat that walked a week

The Cat who walks through Walls

Slinky Malinki (Lyndley Dodd)

Aristotle (Dick King Smith)

Milo and Otis - movie for the younger crowd (dog and cat)

The Cat from Outer Space - movie

DD the younger LOVES Jenny and the Cat Club and also The Fire Cat

James Herriots Favorite Cat Stories is not really for younger kids (DD has thought it too boring so far) - but there are several Cat stories in his Treasury for Children, all of which are available as separate books.

Big cats -

Charlie the Lonesome Cougar - movie

Lordy, I know we have a million cat (including the big cat) books - but can't think of any of them.  I will have to go look through the shelves.
