AimeeM
So my 2 year old decided it would be fun to paint the side of his face with steak sauce this evening at dinner. In an effort to be able to eat my own food, I've taken somewhat of a "meh - he can always get a bath" approach to these events :) When I (gently) cleaned the steak sauce off the side of his face, I noticed it was red. Thirty minutes later, it still looks red - it's a rash, in the exact spot/shape of where he painted it on; there's also a very small rash on his thigh (where he also painted it on). Is there simply something abrasive in the sauce that I can't think of? I didn't notice anything in the ingredients, or is he allergic to it somehow (he's had an allergy test, but it was about 8 months ago)? I gave him a dose of benedryl (he's acting normal and doesn't seem the least bit bothered by it).
ashfern
Tomato and orange are the only things that stuck out to me as possible allergens. There's that whole "spices" thing where they don't actually tell you what they put in there. What were the results of his allergy test? Jean in Newcastle
It's got some acid in it from vinegar etc. It's enough to irritate toddler skin.
Luckymama
Yeah, it's probably just due to the acid. :grouphug: My 19yo dd has developed a few new food allergies this past year, just when we thought the "adding" stage was way past us. AimeeM
His allergy test came back as a mild allergy to milk (which he appears to have already outgrown), otherwise clean as a whistle. He ate pasta with red (tomato sauce) last night with no issue. I'm going to bet it was the acid maybe. Unfortunately, I think I am going to have the doctor run another allergy test, as the rash only cleared up with the benedryl :P
